I have friction tape on my kayak paddle and gave me a blister last year never had before.  Great info learned a lot nice job on the kids paddle thanks for sharing.

Great tips and tricks, Marc.  My kayak paddle needs some re-varnishing, and the spray approach looks like a brilliant time-saver!

Just bought my first canoe and have been researching paddles for the past couple days. I see the benefit of going with a $150-$200 ottertail paddle, but I decided to buy a couple $30 paddles from Amazon and try them out and modify to my liking before taking the plunge on an expensive pair of paddles. The shape is like the one you modified, before you worked on it.

Marc, I've always wanted to sand down one of my Grey Owl paddles,  personalize it and re-varnish it. Never knew it was so easy! Thanks for DIY vid.....love the hockey tape idea, total Canadiana!

What oil do you use? I've heard of boiled linseed oil but it has no mold and mildew protection. I've heard hemp oil is good. Then I've seen teak oil/Danish oil from watco. It's very confusing! Hopeful you can provide an answer. Thank you !
