Deepest sorrows to the people of Norway, may the kind King Harald rest in peace.

Fun fact: As a young boy, King Harald V of Norway stood alongside Franklin D. Roosevelt when FDR took the oath of office for an unprecedented fourth term as President of the United States in 1945.

Hvil I fred, Kong Harald❤

I am so very sorry to the people of Norway, and his family. God rest his soul.

King Harald V and Queen Elizabeth II were second cousins. Their common great grandparents were King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Edward VII’s daughter Maud became Queen of Norway and was Harald’s grandmother, while Edward VII’s son George V was Elizabeth’s grandfather. That also made King Haakon VII Elizabeth’s great-uncle by marriage, which is why she affectionately called him “Uncle Charles”, Haakon had been born Prince Carl of Denmark. King Charles III and Harald were therefore second cousins once removed.

My condolences to his family and the Norwegian people 🇳🇴🕯
Love from your siblings in Sweden 🇸🇪♥

I went to buy groceries yesterday, and every home along the way that had a flagpole had their flags on half mast. I don't think it fully sank in for me until then... 😢

I remember him talking about how deeply moved and absolutely terrified he had been when his father, King Olav 5 died. This was before social media was a thing, and people - independently - flocked to the Royal Courtyard to light candles and leaving flowers in the dark winter night. He felt comforted by the people grieving with him, but King Olav was "the People's King", so he worried that he would never be able to fill his father's big shoes. I think it's safe to say that he did us all proud. I'm sure our new King feels the same way now that his father felt then. But I have no doubt that he will be a great King for Norway as well. ❤

RIP Sport King

Vår kondolanse fra Finland til kongens nærmeste og det norske folk🙏!

R.I.P  dear King Harald.  My sincere Condolences to the family

Truly a great king. Luckily he raised his son right, so his legacy will live on. Rest in peace, Harald.

Hvil i fred, kjære Kong Harald, og takk for at du alltid har gitt alt for Norge 🇳🇴💔

Rest in peace and in power king Harald.

Princess Maud married Prince Carl of Denmark.
He later changed his name to Haakon.
The little Prince Alexander got the name Olav.

What a king !😊❤RIP king 😢

The king is dead. Long live the king! 👑
Rest in peace King Harald. 🙏🏼

The King of Uganda died today too, he was 36.  RIP to both.

There is a second family relationship with the Norwegian and Danish Royal family not mentioned here, as King Haralds grand fathers brother, also a Danish Prince was choosen to be King of Greece, and Queen Elisabeth was married to a Prince of Greece, which was also a part of the Danish Royal family, the oldest Royal family in Europe. RIP King Harald.

Lovely to see other countries reaction to him, cause they geniunly dont scratch the surface of why we norweigens loved him so much. Not meant as disrespect of course, its just that they dont really get what he actually did. He did not just  "uphold constitutions" he was allways adapting to our society and making sure that the country was allways pointed the direction of what we needed to be this stable and successful as a people. I think this loss is greater then we think here in Norway. I hope Håkon can see us the people like Kong Harald did. Lenge leve Kong Harald, og hvil i fred.

The oldest  and stil the most modern and liberal monarch in Europe. Also twice world champion in sailing pluss several silver and bronze medals.
