My stepbrother got HIV through a blood transfusion at the age of 6. It turned into AIDS. He died in 2000 when I was 10, he was only 18. Loved him so much for the short time i knew him.

If someone has never personally known a person living with HIV, their opinions are usually shaped by media, stereotypes, and outdated information. But when people actually know someone living with HIV and hear their story, the judgment tends to melt away.

Max Robinson, was a trailblazer, the first black person to sit on a national tv news desk. Many people have forgotten him, but he was a huge roll model. RIP Max 🙏

35 years later and our healthcare system is still horrific in the US. Pathetic

I lost an uncle , a cousin and 8 friends. It never changed how I treated them.

When you’re overwhelmed with life, you don’t pay attention to the next drama/epidemic. Those words spoken by the guy in the video were very impactful.

I would love to know where the lady who was a recovering addict is now - she looked so level headed and informed about it. Not fear, no stigma, no nothing just acceptance and a good spirit.

This whole AIDS/HIV epidemic was and still is a multifaceted experiment. Health experiment, social experiment, and most of all media experiment. They were able to make an entire nation of people believe a disease was privy only to people with a particular sexual orientation. And people were genuinely stupid enough to believe it. It’s truly, deeply incredible when you really take that in.

Wow people were honest and open then

As a health care social worker, I’ve encountered many individuals with HIV, some with full blown AIDS, but it was my experience with meeting a women who I visited to complete health assessments on that devastated me. Everyone in her family and household were all HIV positive, due to being born with it (her kids) and through drug use with needles (her and husband). I always wonder about them since leaving that job.

I came out in the early 90s in NYC while the pandemic was in full swing yet the gay scene was still vibrant!
I met my partner then and we withdrew from the scene. Three plus decades later I visit my old haunts and see so few familiar faces and when I speak with them they tell me that most of those young men we socialized and partied with back then unfortunately perished at the tail end of the pandemic.
So many of these men longed for love, affection & compassion from their relations and communities but instead were rejected and treated like outcasts. They sought affection wherever they could and paid the ultimate price for it.

And people still not learning.

My cousin was a trans and he died of AIDs. I will never forget the call to go say bye to Shawn in the hospital. We took him to church and he lived 3-6 months longer. Then he succumbed to the disease. He gave his life to Christ and lived strongly for the Lord. He will be missed. We showed him so much love ❤️
