Thank you. You've help me understand the mindset, cultural nuances, and I've learned just to be patient.
~ As for some advice, from a wife of a Japanese older gentleman who works very hard every day, GO HOME.  Go home, after work. Be with your son and your wife.  Call her during your workday, just to say Hi and maybe plan to bring something home for dinner for the three of you.  On weekends, take care of your son, so your wife can enjoy walking, running, shopping, eating out with her friends and plan date nights with her.  Just the two of you. Plan a weekend get-away for the three people that are most important in your life: you, your wife, your son.  Women love to be given a safe place to let down their guard, so don't be afraid to talk to her, and tell her that whenever she wants to talk, you are there to listen.

I have been married to a Japanese man for 28 years. Most of that time he was an angry absent ruler. I told him to change or leave. He decided to change. The main thing that helped is he started trying to find humor in life, and began laughing with me. I was shocked at first, but am used to it now. Things are better. Try to let your wife know you enjoy spending time with her. And laugh sometimes. She won’t believe it at first, but may gradually give you a chance.

Remember to hug and kiss your wife and son before you leave for work and when you return. Send your wife a text to let her know you love and miss her. Tell your son that you thought of him while you were at work and missed him while he was at school. This is what it truly means to be a man. I am rooting for you with all my heart. Lots of love

Write her a letter. Explain how you feel.  How hard it is to express yourself.  Tell her you love her and want to mend your relationship.  Bring her little gifts and wrap them with her name and leave around the house for her to find. Nothing big or even expensive.  Funny little things

So I'm not sure what your daily routine is when the camera's off, but if it's similar to when the camera's on, try surprising her by coming home at a decent hour while her and the son are still up and have dinner as a family. At that point, use that opportunity to have a conversation with her about working on the relationship. I think she'd be motivated as well to try with you.

Smartest thing I have heard you talk about since I found your channel. You can do it. Put pride aside and speak from your heart. 🙏🏼

Start with some small actions: Buy her some flowers and place it where she can see it the next morning.  Buy her and your son some snacks which you know they enjoy, so that they can a pleasant surprise the next day.  Keep on trying!  If you never try, the answer wil always be "no".  Always.

Even if you can only squeeze out 10 or 30 minutes a day, or just have a quick chat with your family, it makes a huge difference. Do your videos truly reflect your daily life? Not having any time for family after work is a blow to both you and them. Spending time together creates shared interests and beautiful memories. Keep it up!

The fact that you acknowledge your shortcomings is a big step in moving forward. The old cliche “action speaks louder than words” comes into play here. Start by doing little things around the house, subtle interactions with your wife and son….

Could you write your feelings in a letter for her? Maybe start by doing simple things. Go and view the cherry blossom as a family. Take your son to the park and push him on a swing. Throw and kick a ball with him. He leaves his drawing and colouring in around maybe for you to see it when you come home. You could sit with him and draw or colour in. Maybe go for a picnic on your day off. The world is wonderful and the simple pleasures give great joy.

I sincerely hope you manage to reconnect with your wife because it is possible. In a couple's life, there are ups and downs, there can be rough patches, but also new, happier days. You already have all the words to express your feelings to her since you've shared them with us. So, good luck, you'll get there!

Excellent mindset. She may have her guard up initially but will come to appreciate your efforts. I’m sure she doesn’t want to break the family up plus she must also recognise that your son is beginning to note both of your actions and perhaps, will carry onto future relationships and the cycle will perpetuate.

You could try asking your wife for help with something - something minor, not too important, perhaps even something you can do on your own. Being able to help someone can make you feel better about yourself! It's about showing vulnerability and being open to asking for help. The realization that she is still needed and appreciated could make her smile.
