Los doctores no le prestaban atención a mis síntomas, prácticamente me tildaban de hipocondríaca. Busqué nutriólogos y el diagnóstico fue hígado graso. Tomé cursos para "resetear" mi cuerpo y no tener síntomas de resistencia a la insulina y SOP. Una sola vez un doctor me dijo: "Cuide no comer azúcares porque anda como en etapa prediabética", pero solo quedó en eso, baje azúcares y ya; nunca me habló de resistencia a la insulina. Yo presentaba acantosis nigricans (que aún tengo en el cuello), pero pasaron los años y me seguía sintiendo igual de cansada y casi depresiva. Para ellos, la culpable siempre era la menopausia.
En el año 2023, en uno de los cursos, me tocó hacerme estudios de laboratorio y tenía las enzimas hepáticas por las nubes. ¡Y otra vez me dijeron que era hígado graso! Para esto, desde 2020 yo había empezado a cuidarme más: más ejercicio y alimentación baja en carbohidratos, cero pan, cero pastas y cero harinas, pero mis síntomas seguían igual.
Hasta que en mayo de 2025 me salió un brote en el pecho tipo lupus, me dolió y casi no podía respirar. Fui con la reumatóloga, llevé mis estudios y me mandó hacer pruebas para lupus y otras enfermedades; salí negativa. Pero ella vio mis enzimas y dijo: "Esto es hepatitis autoinmune y colangitis biliar autoinmune". Dos enfermedades juntas.
Ahí empezó mi nueva vida: el duelo de saber que mi hígado no estaba sano, cuando yo no tomaba (solo en ocasiones muy contadas y mínimo), no fumo y realmente cuidaba mucho mi alimentación. Después vino la biopsia para determinar el grado de fibrosis. Por cierto, es espantoso ese dolor y la recuperación; literal es como un gancho al hígado cada vez que te extraen tejido. Empecé con medicamento, pero mi hígado no cedía.
Luego busqué a otro doctor que me mandó hacer un estudio Doppler. Para mi sorpresa, el radiólogo me dice: "Estás en etapa 3 y 4, 70% de daño y 30% sano". Casi colapso, porque la biopsia marcaba grado 1. Se mandó a analizar mi biopsia a la Ciudad de México (soy de Chihuahua) y salió igual que la primera: grado 1. Entonces no sé si en un año se deterioró tanto mi hígado o si el tejido de la biopsia era de la parte que estaba buena. El doctor dice que se guía por la biopsia, y yo, por salud mental, también.
Mis tiempos de coagulación están dentro de rango, igual que el INR. Pero hace unas semanas empecé con pequeños moretones arriba de la rodilla e inflamación en las piernas (eso se debe a la presión e inflamación portal, donde el bazo también se inflama, ocasiona más flujo de sangre y desata una serie de cosas que yo no sabía).
A lo que voy con todo esto es: escuchen a su cuerpo. Acudan con doctores que de verdad les crean (es difícil encontrarlos, pero existen). También vayan por su cuenta a hacerse un ultrasonido y de ahí parten. Soy una persona que se cuidó y, aun así, mi hígado estuvo en crisis. El problema fue que siempre traje una resistencia a la insulina que no salía en los análisis tradicionales, y la mayoría de los doctores solo hacen caso hasta que ven el problema en un papel. Por lo pronto, si no sale por escrito, para ellos no lo tienes. Me imagino que así pasa con varias enfermedades: vas al médico, no encuentran nada y la mayoría solo sabe recetar para controlar síntomas, pero no ataca la raíz del problema.
Hoy cada día agradezco. Llevo una vida normal, pero sí con muchos cuidados en mi alimentación; disfruto un día a la vez. Claro que me da miedo y terror pensar en el futuro y en la sintomatología que pueda enfrentar, por eso al escuchar este episodio la pensé mucho; tenía miedo de oírlo, pero lo hice.
Por eso, ahora tú que me lees: estás a tiempo de cuidar tu hígado, de comer de forma saludable, de hacer ejercicio, de descansar, de tratar de controlar el estrés y de confiar y retomar a Dios sobre todas las cosas. Hay que seguir adelante, no culparnos ni victimizarnos, ser un testimonio para prevenir y creer en nuestros síntomas. ¡No normalicen andar cansados ni agobiados!
