Going from NES Mario to Sega Sonic was incredible. Sonic was so much fun

Your dad liking Sega more makes sense. A lot of people I know who were not kids at the time of the console wars preferred Sega. It felt more adult. My college age sister had a Sega.

I’ll pick Genesis any day of the week

I had a TurboGrafx-16 as a kid and I remember my friends and classmates didn’t even know what it was lol

I’ve said it in a couple other videos about the sega/nintendo console war era:
I was so lucky to have had friends that were fans of BOTH consoles and had many games for both!

I was a definite Sega man back in the 16bit era.

My neighbor had SNES, my cousin had Genesis (but not a lot of games), I had my NES until I got N64 for Christmas in 1997 and went from there. Man.

As a Sega kid the only game I ever really wanted that SNES had was Donkey Kong Country.

That SNES was more expensive. In my entire apartment complex everyone had Genesis. Our parents wasn't forking up the extra cash. 🤣

Mine was Sega genius, then I got a Sega Saturn, and of course a Dreamcast.good times with my friends.

Team Sega Genesis all the way for me. That was my console of choice when I was kid and if I had to choose between the two today, I would still choose the Sega Genesis. Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Street Fighter II, and Baseball 2020 are among my favorite games growing up.

After 40 years of gaming the Genesis is still my favorite and most played console. The processing speed is the biggest X factor between the two consoles if your a series gamer. Most everything with a few exceptions plays slower or has slowdown on SNES. Although the SNES has better graphical specs, it doesn't play out to be much of a difference once you get down to playing. The top titles look great on both systems. I play a lot of shooters and prefer how they play and sound on Genesis.

Me and My pops was a SEGA team as well. We had the NES and loved it, but we were blown away by the advertisement for the Genesis. Just about everyone else I knew as a kid growing up in that era were SNES owners, so there was a war to which system was overall better when talking about video games in that part of the 90’s!

I appreciated the SNES a lot, but I didn’t care enough during those times to own one. Me and my cousin swapped consoles for like a week, but my dad was ready to get back our SEGA Genesis.

Both had a really awesome library of games, but SEGA just hit the nail on the coffin for Nintendo to be dead to me hahaha

But I did enjoy Zelda: ALTTP, Yoshi’s Island, MK3, DKC 1-3, and more! So yeah..SNES did have some amazing stuff.

!!!!SEGA!!!!

I’m a Genesis guy, but, if it hasn’t been for my Dad, I might have ended up in the SNES camp.

I’ll never forget, I was just starting 6th grade and that was the year the SNES was going to launch. I asked my Dad if I got straight A’s on my next report card if I could have an SNES, and he said yes.

9 weeks later, I get straight A’s, but my Dad totally backed out of the deal. It really burned my ass and I was mad at him for years. Really not the kind of thing you should do to an 11 year old boy.

Sega genesis was more licensed then nintendo and had more advertisement

I was lucky as a Kid, my Dad used to get me both consoles, first the Master System and the Nes, later The Genesis and Snes, l loved Nintendo and Sega equally, still do, and i still have my retro collection, great times beeing a kid in the 90's

They both won the console war.

I appreciate your ability to look back as an adult and say "There was no war, the war was in our minds"....but ask a Sega or Nintendo Exec from that period and they will absolutely say otherwise

It’s such a great point on the “not missing out” Sega did a phenomenal job of making sure they had a game in every genre that made sure you never really missed out on anything. Sometimes they weren’t quite as good but they had that extra edge of being more “mature” and having the sports genre even if only in perception
