This week on Life at the Manor, we’re marking a significant moment in Chavenage’s history as our contract-farming arrangement comes to an end and the farm’s livestock head off to auction.
For many years, farming has been a huge part of the daily rhythm of the estate. Watching the livestock leave and the yards fall quiet was undoubtedly emotional, but it also gives us an opportunity to look carefully at the land, the farm and what the next chapter could hold for Chavenage.
A huge thank you to Toby, James and the entire farming team for all their hard work, care and commitment over the years. We’d also like to give a special thank you to James for all his brilliant shepherding and for looking after the sheep so exceptionally well.
Thank you as well to Fred Sealey and everyone at Voyce Pullin Auctioneers for providing the fantastic drone footage and for being so incredibly hospitable throughout the sale. You made a significant and emotional day run incredibly smoothly.
We don’t have every answer about what comes next, but Chavenage has constantly adapted throughout its history—and this is another of those important moments. It may be the end of one chapter, but we hope it’s also the beginning of an exciting new one.
