I heard him telling in one of his performance of this very ghazal that it is based on raag Bhankar which has faded out with time.....one cam feel how that raag is the amalgamation "sangam" of when night is gradually weaving into morning before the sun rise.....so close your eyes and feel the "alap" when he weaves the notes of the raag to blend the "sangam " of the two moving time durations into one........I have yet to hear world renowned composers' composition from Mozart,  Beethovan. Da Vinci, Rahmanov, Yanni etc., to create a symphony and the effect MH has done in the alap at its beginning.....
