Have you used a review service like Gemsy? If so, what’s been your experience? If not, is it something you’d consider?

A few years ago I distributed an ebook free, hoping to get some positive reviews. A week or so later I discovered that my book was on sale, with a different author name (it's still there). And that was the second time I had a book "hijacked". Which is why I'd be very wary of distributing free copies of my books, except maybe to people I know I can trust.

My book has 7 real reviews! And almost 100 sales with zero social media and no email list. I’m working on the illustrated version now because my illustrations received an A grade!!!

Love your videos. So informative and well articulated. Thank you Rachel.

I believe it is against Amazons guidelines to offer a freebie in exchange for their contact details. The way I understand it is that you have to give them instant access to the freebie and then it is optional whether they leave their details for you to capture.

I am enjoying this video and finding it useful. Thank you for all of your work in creating tutorials. Your straight to the point style of teaching is appreciated. I own Affinity Designer and I use your tutorial on that all time.

At the start of the video, you say to give ARC copies for reviews from friends and family. At the end, you say not to do it?

Solid breakdown. Getting reviews the right way is something most authors overlook, and this explains it clearly. The part about staying compliant while still boosting visibility is especially useful. Great practical value here.

@ThuyChu-g4f 1 year ago

You explained that so well.

I didn’t know I needed this until now.

Is it true that Amazon KDP doesnt allow uploading additional preview material like videos of the book being flipped through or showing sample coloring pages completed etc?

@onjelbercier 5 months ago

When you mentioned what is not allowed, some of it sounds really unrealistic to me, because how are you going to tell someone they can't ask friends or family members to review their book? How do you even track whether someone happens to be friends with or related to the author? And no business associates? What if my cover designer happens to be interested in reviewing my book? Are they not allowed to? That restricts people's resources when they already have a limited circle of supporters.
