The lyrics are from the story written in the Book of Exodus in the Old Testament from the Holy Bible. The legend of Metallica writing this song goes something like this: They were watching the film The Ten Commandments, which is a very long film based on the Book of Exodus, and when the film portrayed the tenth plague of a green fog ending the first born of everyone in Egypt, bassist Cliff Burton said, "Whoa! That's like Creeping Death!"
Musically, Welcome Home / Sanitarium is my favorite from Seattle show. It has everything Metallica can offer - melodic parts, harmonies, solos, James vocals and pure thrash metal the second half of the song.
jason newsted on bass.. he did seek and destroy in the early 90s live.. also some parts of Whiplash.. definetely worth to take a look. Especially the concert in San Diego '92
I was at one of the two Seattle shows in 1989. Been going to concerts since 1985. Still the best show I've been to. Me and my friends got in line at 1pm for the general admission show. We got right on the wall and held on for dear life. So crushing and hot up there but worth every second!!! When the statue of liberty exploded during One it scared the shit out of me LOL. ROCK ON!!! 🤘
Excellent reaction. Some more information about this masterpiece....the song is specifically inspired by Exodus, and Passover, as seen in the lyrical reference to the Pharaoh and lamb's blood painted door. The first three Metallica albums are commonly referred to as The Holy Trinity. They're outstanding. Check out this same song from the same live in Moscow where show you watched Enter Sandman. The energy is crazy. A few other suggestions.... "Whiplash" live in Seattle, "For Whom the Bell Tolls" live in Oakland '85 Day on the Green That's where you'll see the legend Cliff Burton in all of his mastery. Anything from the '89 tour is gold though. Caught 'em twice that year in Philly, and it was outstanding. 🤘😎🤘
From The And Justice tour. They were two years away from REALLY blowing up but you can tell they were well on their way. This particular song comes from their second record Ride The Lightning which was before Master of Puppets. The audience chanting adds to the song quite well. Another great reaction of a great song.
