I put my prepared encaustic surfaces into my airing cupboard (which is always warm because of the hot water tank in it) this ensures that the panel is nice and warm prior to putting the wax on.  I only bring it out once I'm ready to apply the wax ☺

Hi Stacey, thank for your VERY helpful video on surfaces. I am very new to the medium and am struggling to get it right but I will get there. One thing I want to share. I have a very limited space at home for this and it is not purposed for art so I have to be very tidy and clean etc. Also I did not have space for large hot plates so I managed to solve this problem by buying a raclette pan which has individual pans underneath a hot stone panel. So it works like a double decker hot place, the top for the clear medium and the bottom for the colours. There are 8 pans underneath and you simple bring the colours to the panel as. you would bring your cheese to your mouth ! I hope this makes sense. If anyone is interested I can post a photo of it. Hi! Thx for sharing :) so, when I go to add colour to something using the encaustic pen tool, it melts the colour underneath and the colour isn't pure. How can I fix this? And if I run over my drawing with the heat gun, it melts it all together. :(
