Alot of people don't remember, but just a few years before Spaceballs was released, it could sometimes take new released movies 2+ years to be released on VHS. By the time they were making SB, Movies were coming out in about 6 months. People were making jokes that the movie would be out on VHS the same day the movie was released in theaters. Mel Brooks said, I'll take this joke even further. 😂
What a legend!

To quote Deadpool: "Fourth Wall break inside a Fourth Wall break. That's like...sixteen walls."

With movies streaming in only a couple of months after release, we almost have instant cassettes. Mel Brooks is a prophet.

Proof that Mel Brooks is a genius

To quote Deadpool, "a 4th wall break inside of a 4th wall break. That's like, 16 walls".

This is absolutely one of the silliest fourth wall breaks in movie history right here

The ultimate 4th wall break. This and Blazing Saddles and Robin Hood Men in Tights are my top favorite Mel Brooks movies

I remember being disappointed that when Spaceballs was finally released on VHS that the cover didn't look like the cover they used in the movie.

Mr. Rental had every single movie Mel Brooks movies directed and starred in. One of the funniest scenes in the entire movie

This is a perfect scene

That shit was f**king genius!!! 😅

I’m realizing now what makes this gag truly funny is Dark Helmet’s shock at the whole scenario. He’s acting like the audience going “Wait, what?” instead of saying “Yeah that just happened.” And he sells it so well.

This skit was pure genius 😂😂

I remember wanting that VHS cover.

Broke the fourth wall and took out the second and third walls with it.

The fact that the movie villains had a problem that they couldn't solve and decided to just fast forward the movie for the solution has always been one of the most genius moves in movie history. Only Mel Brooks could have pulled it off.

as Mel would say: "To hell with the 4th wall!"

My favorite part is Dark Helmet casually drinking the coffee though that shower drain on his mask. 😂
