It’s crazy to think next year (2026) not only will this be the 65th anniversary of the original animated 101 Dalmatians but also the 30th Anniversary of the Live-Action remake starring Glenn Close.

Part of the reason many women would quit working after getting married was because society and companies were intentionally discouraging married women from working to the point some of them wouldn’t hire them if they were because they wanted to keep married women in the home and didn’t want women taking up all the jobs. I actually heard this story about a woman who used her maiden name for work, so she could get away with working for Disney like her husband because they wouldn’t have hired her otherwise. It’s one of those unfortunate facts in women’s history.

For the longest time I thought Cruella was Anita’s aunt, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I found out they’re supposed to be the same age.

28:30 As an illustrator I can tell you that the word you are looking for that describes how Jasper was drawn with a “3D” perspective is called foreshortening 🤓🧐

Someone who has read the book more recently correct me - but, I believe there is dialog in the book, spoken by Roger, where he points out how similar Cruella's full name is to the term "cruel devil." That's probably why they went in that direction initially with her "theme song."

and - Roger's resuscitation method for the puppy is totally valid. The author of the book actually had a real-life experience with this when her husband was able to revive the runt of a litter of puppies by doing that exact thing. Sometimes newborn animals need some stimulation like that to get their vitals going.

24:24 Scooby Doo’s designer actually animated this dog, Iwao Takamoto. He left for Hanna Barbera after this movie’s production

35:19 Well that’s because Home Alone writer John Hughes wrote the screenplay for the live action 101 Dalmatians.

Speaking of TV shows being shown in a Disney movie, the What's my Crime segment Horace and Jasper were watching is a parody of a big early American game show called What's My Line which ran from 1950 to 1967. The panelists would ask ten questions to try to guess some people's profession and then they would be blindfolded and end with a celebrity mystery guest every time. Walt Disney himself was the mystery guest in a 1956 episode. Clarence Nash also once appeared on it as a non mystery guest in 1954 though he didn't whip out the Donald Duck voice until after he stumped the panel. Most episodes can be found on youtube and it's probably the only chance to see someone like Eleanor Roosevelt or Salvador Dali on a game show

Of all the Silver Age films, 101 Dalmatians is VERY close to
my favorite. I also like the contemporary art style of Xerox films. It influenced many animated features in the 70s and 80s and the affordable process of Xerox helped give rise to other animation studios, including former Disney animator Don Bluth. The Secret of Nimh and The Land Before Time are examples of Xerox films when he opened his own studio.

So many lovely shots like hell hall in the fog, pongo and perdita by the lake, and going through the snowy British countryside. Love this movie!!!

@JayietheRiverWarrior 9 months ago

When I was a very young kid, when Perdy was having her puppies, I thought the puppies were “delivered” in a big truck or something, so when they lost one, I thought it had fallen off the back of the truck or something, so Roger rubbing the towel was looking to see if the puppy was still in the towel rather than having fallen off the back of the truck 😂

7:11 well the reason Disney did this decision was One not having the dogs perform a religious marriage and 2 not to upset anyone religious that might go see the movie

8:52 Now, there is an additional part of the song “Cruella De Vil” that I don’t know if it was cut from the final version or added to later covers, but it goes:
“The Curl of Her Lips, The Ice in Her Stare. All Innocent Children Had Better Beware”.

There is a buried cartoon series “101 Dalmatian St” that ran on various Disney channels for a bit, it is extremely good, and it’s canon is that the dogs are descendants of the original 17 from this movie. Cruella still exists and is more a existential boogeyman, not without trying for more mind you, until the finale, when all the stops are pulled and the show enters horror movie territory. Silent screaming and pointing panic by main puppy characters. You feel the fear this woman provokes. Chef’s Kiss
