I took a peaceful trip to Chaldon Church in Surrey expecting a quiet bit of English history… and instead discovered one of the oldest and most jaw-dropping wall paintings I’ve ever seen!

Hidden in plain sight, this medieval mural dates back nearly 800 years and tells a vivid story of heaven, hell, and the human soul — right there on the church wall.

Seeing the mural of hell and purgatory really sobers a person up to be good. The cemetery really proves from dust you came to dust you shall return. Thank you . Such a great place to visit.

A lot of these medieval paintings are so stark and brutal. It’s weird to think of them all over church walls when now we are often used to simple lines, beauty, and tranquility in modern churches.

Watching your videos has given me a new appreciation for graves. I used to be scared of graves and for years wouldn’t go anywhere near them. All down to a nightmare I had as a child after the first funeral I went to.
I’ve got better over time, but watching these videos has really helped me let go of that fear a lot more!

I used to ride my horse past this church daily as a kid and the horse would always be very skittish and jittery until we got past here . The wall muriel is very spine chilling... my mum used to bring her brownie pack here carol singing at Christmas. It's very haunted you'll find yourself doing a double take as you think you seen fleeting moving figures especially in the graveyard making you do a double take.

Oh my what a treat! I loved the beautiful old graveyard, it’s funny here in the states when we say something is old it’s 2 or 3 hundred years and here you are walking along the tombs in the church from the 1400s, amazing! loved all the stained glass, the beautiful wood and of course the wall painting. It’s so nice to see these things from the comfort of my living room. I appreciate what you do for us, so fun and educational.
