Led Zep has been living in my head rent free since 1969 . Couldn't ask for better tenants.

Bonham's drum sound here is among the most celebrated and heavily sampled drum tracks in hip-hop, rock, and electronic music.

Bonzo''s drumming in this reminds me of the Mighty Mississippi River that is relentless. That Levee never stood a chance.

This is about "the great migration" of American black people from Mississippi to Chicago for work in the stockyards and railroads following a disastrous flood in Mississippi. That is why there are several references of "going to Chicago".

I've been listening to Led Zeppelin since I was 18. I'm now 74. I was just listening to Led 1 today. Never gets old. Glad to see younger generations appreciating my generations music.

I love that musicians your age recognize how awesome this music is! Boomers were blessed to grow up with this!

This one still gives me goosebumps even after hearing it hundreds of times. The power of music. Originally written in 1929 about the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927, rewritten by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Paul Jones and John Henry Bonham in the early 1970's. And then they played it. With passion and POWER.

The song was originally written and recorded by Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie in 1929 and reflects the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. Wikipedia.

Some of the best harmonica ever put on record

Always nice to see younger generations experience the best era of music of all genres, the 50's to the late 80's. The 70's wins if we limit it to one decade. Country, blues, rock, punk, disco, R and B, the beginnings of metal, Folk, all were at their peak in the 70's

Bonham's 36" kick drum really makes a big fat sound😀

@thomasklobucnik2587 1 month ago

The drums were recorded in a 3 story stone stairwell in an old country house. Instead of mic’ing the drums as usual they hung a pair of mics at the top, 3 stories up. The most powerful drum sound ever recorded.

I clicked here from your tragically hip video!

I always thought I would have to time travel to before my birth to hear Led Zeppelin live but I got to see Robert Plant live with Alison Krauss at a music festival a few years ago. When the first mandolin notes of The Battle of Evermore started, the entire crowd went silent and you could have heard a pin drop. Then they played When the Levee Breaks. It's been three years already and I don't think I'll ever get over it. Like, can anything top this?

This happens to be my favorite Led Zeppelin song, I was just 10 when this came out and I was hooked.
Heard them a lot on the radio until I got my 1st record player and stereo AIO. Not that expensive, But good enough for a 10 year old boy.
I still listen to there music to this day,
Awesome song and a Great band.

I cannot stress enough that this is my favorite song from my favorite band so when I tell you that you MUST hear/react to the "Playing for change" version led by John Paul Jones and an international cast of fabulous musicians and singers you won't soon forget! the visuals on the video are great as well. They are a co-op of musicians put together for charity. You'll find a lot of legends on their page doing covers.
