*Me dragging my wife to look at the screen*: LOOK! He has a whole bunch of tabs open too. Its normal!

Knowing that LK doesn't really care that much about combos makes his opinion of active tag make way more sense to me tbh. For me the part about BBTAG that made active tag so sick was all the different combo applications and synergies you could make due to the assist and active tag system. Learning how to do Cross Combo shenanigans, both for pressure and for actual combos, feels sick as hell, AND it enables strategies that characters normally wouldn't be able to do. So many unique combinations of what characters can do and what goals they can accomplish with a combo, and none of it would feel nearly as natural in a more typical Vs game.

One thing I noticed from all this is, because all characters share the same health bar, you're not really punished besides the recoverable health, if your assist keep getting hit, unless of course you're caught in a happy birthday.
Then again, in others tag fighters, you will eventually lose access to this assist, because it will end up dying or when you've to play it, it's already 50% health bar or less.

While I may not be a high level (or very good in general) fighting game player, I still personally enjoy active tag in the games I've played with it. Sure I do personally enjoy the team building dynamic that comes from picking your assist and needing to commit to that assist in a game like MvC or Skullgirls and try to be careful with your switching, but games like BBTAG and 2XKO still have their fun things about them that make it fun to try and have more freedom with how you use your assist character and allowing to to flow between in more quickly. Marvel Tokon probably while makes it the most balanced, I would argue it honestly feels the worst to me imo to active tag, largely because to me it feels like the restrictiveness of it makes it harder to find to good use to do active tag for me when I can, and even then it still feels like it's unresponsive half the time. Could just be a skill issue as someone who's only played it for about 10-12 hours or so, but that's just how I feel. But I do agree that I would like to see another major traditional vs foghting game next since all of these games releasing so close to one another does make it feel overcrowded and like devs are trying to replace it in vs fighters (not that they are obviously, just good to have that variety)

The main issue I have with Tokon active tag is that it seems to lock on to the tag character vs the active character. Also I think it should just be a bit more limited for when it can be used.

Doom and Storm don't have the best active tags but they tend to be the main fighters on the team. Plus the short time to get them back out makes active tag that much worse. You have 3 really strong assist characters with short cooldowns that will cover you up until your top tier main fighter comes back.

10:13 this is true for every strong mechanic in every game. Very few people play Manon because she a horrible drive rush and people pick characters just because they have a good assist in every tag and versus game.

Love you are not just doomposting, I love tokon!

Our strongest warrior ❤

Coming from Strive to 2XKO it makes me sad LK didn't enjoy 2X as much as I did, my first active tag game and I found it really fun to learn how to create unique combos and blockstrings

I feel indifferent with active tag, but i do prefer an fg without it. I still like tokon but i just hope active tag gets adjusted (not destroyed) to promote more creativity in offense and neutral sequences outside of active tag

None of those mechanics caused a game to fail. Pandora mode though...

The chopped Chun Li picture 😂

Great video Diaphone enjoyed that well done, considering I love playing 2XKO an a fair few tag fighters in general and get guff for liking them in certain circles haha, haven't played Tokon yet though.🕹💫🎮🍀

Worse mechanic: Combo-enabling guard cancels. Also, V-Trigger

the major issue with the korra example is that every character interacts with flow differently. flow defensively is universal but offensively it works completely different on a per character basis. active tag is always going to be used the same way because every character does it the same way

Personally I’m a fan of active tag games. I hope to see more in the future.

Kinda to LK's point about creativity, part of what kept me off 2KO was the just free throwing of assist, tag if you hit, and backdash if you didn't until you can assist again. Granted this was mostly scrubby and riot did address it, but there was a time when basically every team played like this.

compared to the korra example, it is kind of the same thing, but it's not a universal mechanic where everyone does that.

"every character in 2xko is good with active tag" cries in akali

I get LK after what they did to Blazblue
