A complete joy to watch. The film of Julia’s Jordanian namesake grandmother made me quite emotional. What an amazing woman.

This episode is wonderful. The her-story, culture and the path she created are a wonderful testament to women's resilience. Talk about breaking the glass ceilings. Wow.

I heard Julia laugh like when she played Lydia in Pride and Prejudice. I’ve watched that so many times that my ears picked it up straight away. She was so excellent in that role. I think she’s a terrific actress.

Such an incredible woman to have had the strength to achieve so much in a patriarchal society. A role model to her family and women in Jordan

As a nation, we all have such rich diverse family histories that so often cross borders and boundaries. We should all celebrate such diversity with its accompanying multiple authenticities rather than claiming any false hierarchy of belonging. A touching portrait of London, Hugenot and Beduin identities.

When great minds are bored, they create the most amazing things. What a brilliant lady, her grandmother seems to have been and how cool to just go against tradition in search of where she truly belonged. Like she had a mind for business and did an amazing thing by actually saying "I want to do something with that" instead of just conforming to what was expected.

One of the more interesting stories in this season, Julia's family history is fascinating

I watched Press Gang as a kid in the UK and decided I wanted to be a journalist.  I moved to America when I was 13.  My mum was adopted from Europe in the 1950s and brought to the States where she met my dad in high school.  I know nothing about her side other than what she knew as a kid in Europe.  I did my DNA test and I’m 20% Anatolian Turkish.  We don’t have any Turkish relatives or culture.  I’ve always been curious to find out my roots.  We all live with assumptions, handed down stories and societal conversions that our heritage often gets diluted as we assimilate to where we live throughout our lives.  I would love to be able to find out the actual truth one day.

I absolutely loved this episode. You can hear how proud she was to find out about her amazing Arabian grandmother .  I was glad that Julia was able to let her mother know that that her ancestors did come from Normandy.  Jenny 🇨🇦

Julia’s grandmother was the kind of women we need now in the Middle East… absolute legend and Lysistrataesque character

I love that Julia invited her mother to join her on the discovery trip <3

Her grandmother was incredible.. She should be so proud of her and embrace her roots and her culture.

I love the fact Briton has kept so many records and restored houses as living museums

Wonderful episode. Julia Senior appears to have been a trailblazer and a powerhouse. When film types are looking for new material, sometimes it is in their own heritage. I bet Julia Senior's life would make a great movie.

Love her dad, speaks in riddles 😂

A line of very strong women.  I imagine Grandmother Julia's own mother was just as strong but born into an ultra restrictive era where to have broken away could have resulted in her own termination.  How wonderful to have realised the phenomenal opportunities they had been given because of the strength of a brave and very determined grandmother.

I can see where Julia and her sister get their courage , guts and outspokenness to be bothered very successful women in the UK. Her grandmother was a strong woman.

Most Hugeunots came to the UK at the end of the 1600s following the revocation of the Edict of Nante which had protected them in France.

They largely fell into two "groups" one group labourers and the other group highly skilled tailors, goldsmiths, bakers, weavers and the like. The idea that most were artisans is not really true, although a lot of those who were artisans were encouraged by a bounty paid by the government/rich london merchants a form of economic warfare used to weaken France.

At a time you were more likely to hear French rather than English spoken around Soho and Spitalfields.

My family escaped from around Rouen, France to London around Bank, Spitalfields and then moved out to Norwich where a lot of Huguenots ended up as labourers and household servants.

The earlier generations often had biblical first & second names and were very unimaginativly reused in each generation simply swapping the first and second name about in each generation and across the various branches of the family. Unravelling the links is very hard work.

What a wonderful and brave family on both sides of Julia's ancestors. Wow! how great to have ancestors who pathed the way for her and her family .Loved this post

As soon as I heard all she did, I knew Julia's Jordanian grandmother was a great person
