You saying it sounds kind of like Chinese pop literally expanded my mind lol, ur so right.

this feels like an amplified version of the weirdness thats always been part of illit & it suits them sooo well

People might not like it, I might not like it but I genuinely hope ILLIT keep doing quirky stuff like this. Cause they're good at it.

Thank you for saying it's Orange Caramel coded!! That's exactly what I was thinking. It reminded me of Catellena, but also Momoland in general! Momoland had a lot of this type of camp silliness throughout their career as well and I was instantly reminded of them when I first watched the mv. Yena was another artist I thought of , too!! I was also thinking I could see early days of Red Velvet or f(x) releasing this song as well. It's Me is pretty early 2nd Gen-like, in my opinion, and I think that's why a lot of people were shocked by it because that type of music is rare in 5th Gen now.

I also find it fascinating that you said it reminded you of Chinese pop because I found it reminded me of Japanese pop! At least as I was growing up, a lot of the Japanese pop I listened to sounded like this and also had this quirky and unique style in their concepts. Expanding on the Japanese pop part, I recently discovered that the choreographer for this song is Japanese! And the dance really stood out to me as Japanese as well so I felt very happy to have my suspicions confirmed that there was some Japanese influence with the song.

I get that a lot of people aren't used to hearing this type of music, but it does slightly annoy me that people would rather call it "bad" than just accept that it's not their cup of tea. There's nothing wrong with saying you don't like something!

These are the kind of songs that K-Pop just NEEDS. Over the top fun with a drop of unhinged. The chorus is super catchy and the part before the Who's Your Bias is ADDICTING they sound SO good there. I also find the idea that this "doesn't fit" ILLIT very silly. They ate that concept UP while remaining their more "usual sound" throughout their EP.

I feel like this is completely on brand for them.

I think it's pretty much the same vibe as jellyous... not that much of a departure. And they have always been weird as shit, and it's what I love about them. But it 's true that not cute anymore went too much into the "soft" and it's me is pretty much the opposite. So I guess people got whiplash

The retro Chinese music you were thinking of is called Chinese opera! And you're dead on! I AM Chinese and I can tell you, you hit the nail on the head with that comparison bc I've been listening to this song since it was released and the entire time I've been like "this sounds familiar?? Even though it's really not like any other kpop song??" So thanks for making that comparison bc I think it was spot on.

Also, I think everyone freaking out over them doing a song like this, claiming that they shouldn't have abandoned their dreamy magical girls concept- it's not like they can't go back to that! lol I really don't mind that they went in this direction. I think it shows how versatile they are.

I think it’s fun and catchy… somehow it works. Good on illit

Their friendship with LSF has definitely given them the power to embrace and centre their weirdness and DGAF attitude. And I love that for them.

Crazy hard techno vibes in the start

The rest of the album is beautiful I absolutely love GRWM

The whole video is very Pan-Asian. There are elements of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai all mixed through the whole thing.
The song has a Chinese style like you said with some of the cutesy Jpop sounds mixed  in. The dance is very Thai. Very similar to Kratae dance videos mix of the old with the new dances.
Tons of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean visuals all through the video. It feels like it's an attempt to create a new Gangnam Style trend for sure. You are dead on right, Orange Caramel would've done this song too. Good catch. I'm glad to see illit try some new music ideas.

I'm from Tierra del Fuego and I loved that they used a Yagan word for the name of their album 😍🇦🇷

It's sounds like euro house/techno song, but I've noticed that opening with "Idol" line sounded more Japanese than Korean or English.

The other thing this song reminds me of is like late 2000s/early 2010s youtube. Like this song would have been a viral meme hit like Gangnam Style kind of was in 2012 when the mainstream West didn't know Kpop and weren't used to the comedic quirky vibe mixed with a hyper catchy song and dance.

ILLIT stands as the top 5th-generation K-pop girl group

To me, this is not exactly a departure of concept. This is still so hooky and dance themed, just harder and more meta! Though I don’t feel that this is their most cohesive ep, I actually feel as though this wave of “hybe techno songs” works BEST with illit. This song also reminds me of my time watching vocaloid on YouTube … I can’t wait to see what they do next :D ALSO PAW PAW fave bside on the album methinks

I agree totally. I love so much this comeback

I agree. I def think this is very illit and I say that as a very casual fan of theirs. I loved this song.
I keep saying that certain people beg for old kpop sounding song and I would argue Illit has delivered multiple times. But because it's illit people hate them for it.
