The fact that they just throw their trash out the window and no one in the community does anything about it or helps says a lot. They have no self respect for that.

The guy from the beginning was giving you indications, he thought you were lost. Also that station is not kept because its construction (about 10 years ago) was not received by City Hall, long story. Yeah ugly tags and writing (it's not grafiti, it's shit ) on walls are a major issue here.

In the past I had to drive through main road in Ferentari. It's bad (now it's slightly better due to the mayor ocasionaly doing mass cleaning interventions ), I never went outside my car. The worst area you visited is inhabited by extremely low income people. It says a lot about their character when they throw garbage out the window. They also like to blame it on the government (it is partly correct), but these individuals will never move the snow on their own/clean on their own/keep a quiet environment/etc. It's mostly these type of people to blame. Some of these people go to other countries and bring shame to the regular Romanians.

ive been living in romania for the past 3-4 months ,im from liverpool im 60 km away from bucharest , i havent seen one pinch of crime since ive been here , the town that i am in , the girls can walk the streets safely at night ,ive met some very cool and friendly people not many speak english but if you make an effort an learn some minimal basic communication skills and some politeness you can get along absolutely fine. ITS 10 X SAFER THAN LONDON OR LIVERPOOL 100%

i am from Bucharest and in 40 years nobody tried to pick pocket me, also the city is very safe, there's like 1-2 rough places but every city has them. in Romania it is SAFE to walk at night in 99% of the places

I am from Bucharest, I think I should add the following as a context
don't want to find excuses, the place really exists, but
- it's really about a small area of let's say MAXIMUM 500m x 500m but it's less than that (it's theoretically just 3 buildings)
- if you walk a few streets away it starts to get back to normal
- the "dangerous" thing about it is like they can steal you and, worst case, kick your ass - but no stabbings like London (where I am currently living)
- 20 years ago it was much worse, but (despite of what people say in comments) the neighbourhood really improved (local authorities being more involved in cleaning)
- there are also videos about this place where you see police patrolling pretty often

Interesting, I travelled the first week of October 2024 for a week with the train from The Netherlands to Romania: Bucharest and Constanta. When I was there it occurred to me that I had not seen much from vloggers about this country. I haven’t been in that hood, but close by, as I walked around 100 km in Bucharest. I have to admit I felt very save in Bucharest, also in the evening. A whole other story was on the way to Romania at Sunday night in Frankfurt at 3.00 AM. In would not recommend walking there at that time, but I wanted to see the centre. It literally was a ghost-town with some very drunk, homeless and some very sketchy people.

Regarding the railway station, these modernist structures become slums much faster than the old, Victorian buildings ever did.

A lot of youtubers are going in that ghetto area, it's a corner of our capital of course, 95% of the city is safe. It's very turistic lately...iShowSpeed went there too

That “train station” is actually the TRAM station. The Basarab train station is just a few meters away from that entrance with the elevators etc. And a few hundreds meters away in the same area, there is Gara de Nord (North Railway Station).

And Ferentari is just one neighborhood in Bucharest. Go to Cotroceni or Primăverii and you’ll see Bucharest looks waaay better than some neighborhoods in London or Paris.

I was hired to work for a big tech company when I was 24 years old, stayed in Bucharest in one of the most expensive hotels for 2 weeks. Some guys banged on my door and said "we spoke on the internet". I told them I haven't even used the internet and tried to close the door. They were about to rob me until my friend showed up and then they ran away. The hotel staff claimed they didn't see anyone coming nor going and there was nothing on the cameras. I was young and stupid so I of course didn't call the cops. But i left the hotel the next day and stayed with my friend's place instead. Other than that I had no issues with crime. One time I was chased by dogs at night lol. Oh to be young and stupid.

yes please come back in the summer. in the winter everything is gray and ugly. we dont even have snow anymore, it used to be lovely in the winter.
