The Road to AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY Continues with Greg & Coy's X-Men: Days of Future Past Movie Reaction, Commentary, Analysis, Breakdown, Recap, & Full Movie Spoiler Review!!

Greg Alba & Coy Jandreau watch for the first time in a while and react to and review X-Men: Days of Future Past – The Rogue Cut (2014), the extended version of Bryan Singer’s acclaimed X-Men epic that unites the original and prequel casts in one of the franchise’s most ambitious storylines.

Set in a dystopian future where mutants are hunted by Sentinels, Logan / Wolverine (Hugh Jackman — Logan, The Greatest Showman) is sent back in time to 1973 to prevent the event that triggers humanity’s war against mutants. There, he must unite younger versions of Charles Xavier (James McAvoy — Split, Atonement) and Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto (Michael Fassbender — Inglourious Basterds, Steve Jobs) to stop Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence — The Hunger Games, Silver Linings Playbook) from assassinating Bolivar Trask.
The Rogue Cut restores a major subplot involving Rogue (Anna Paquin — True Blood, The Piano), adding new stakes to the future timeline as the X-Men attempt a dangerous rescue mission to keep Kitty Pryde alive and the timeline intact. The film is packed with iconic moments, including Quicksilver’s slow-motion Pentagon breakout (Evan Peters — American Horror Story, WandaVision), Magneto’s stadium-lifting sequence, and the intense Sentinel battles that showcase the full power of the mutant roster.
Featuring a massive ensemble including Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, Logan) as Professor X and Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings, Mr. Holmes) as Magneto, Days of Future Past blends time-travel storytelling, emotional character arcs, and large-scale action into one of the most beloved entries in the X-Men franchise—enhanced even further in this extended cut.

I like how “the rogue cut” explains how the sentinels ended up finding them because of the broken hand that was stuck onto the X jet, because in the theatrical version there’s no explanation to how the sentinels found them.

The whole subplot of Raven going back to the mansion and destroying Cerebro was added in the Rogue Cut. It was not in the theatrical cut. That's probably why you guys don't remember it. 🤭

Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen were performing in a touring production of "Waiting for Godot" when Bryan Singer approached the actors about reprising their respective roles as Professor X and Magneto. According to McKellen, both men were utterly shocked, as they thought they had passed their roles on to James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, and would never play the characters again. Stewart and McKellen were delighted to return to two of their most popular roles, and to work with the younger actors playing the same characters as well.

The Rogue cut like actually makes sense and that’s what I appreciate, it fills in so many gaps specifically how the sentinels can actually TAKE mutant’s powers like Mystiques genes alone make NO SENSE

@Elder_Emo1990 6 months ago

The Rogue cut should have been the theatrical version honestly. Can’t wait to watch this today after a workout though. Side note: Greg or Coy, you guys need to drop your workout schedule! Please? Lol

It’s insane we had DOFP, The Winter Soldier, and Guardians of The Galaxy all in the same year

Best justification: Kitty can go through walls, so her powers are enhanced and she can go through the walls of time/space/multiverse. And just like she can touch someone and bring them through regular walls, she can take their minds back in time by touching their heads.

The scene of future Charles talking to past Charles and picking him up when he’s at his absolute lowest point always gets me teary-eyed. As someone who had an incredibly rough childhood, and suffers from Major Depressive Disorder, and didn’t think there was any point in fighting for a better future, I know that current me would be able to say just the right things to my past self to motivate him to not just believe in people more, but believe in myself more.

Coy just casually dropping the Lucas Till roommate lore like it's no big deal 😂

I believe Peter’s little sister is actually Lorna Dane because their mom says “go upstairs and bug your sister.” It’s at least an assumption that the older sister was Wanda

Three things...

1. I love how the Wolverine cameo in First Class was paid off in this movie.

2. The deleted scene showing the romantic relationship between Wolverine and Storm was cool.

3. The Mystique/Stryker thing at the end is just weird.

i feel like people overlook how brilliant this franchise was for being able to cast great xmen twice in 2 seperate franchises and then also crossover them at the end with this movie and it work so well. being able to cast a perfect magneto and professor x twice and have them crossover on paper sounds impossible

@keriritchey5899 6 months ago

In the normal version iceman dies in the end when the sentinels break through the door to xavier, kitty, and magneto

@elisson.farias 6 months ago

I like that he can walk, because that way he has the right to choose between walking and his powers, and in the end, by choosing his powers, he chooses to lead the X-Men.It's cool that Xavier is having a moment of sacrifice.

THE BEST X-MEN MOVIE?! THE GOD-TIER FILM OF 2014 👏🏻
(love the rogue cut by the way)

Coy try to praise a past CBM without shitting on current ones challenge: impossible

@michaeln3044 6 months ago (edited)

I agreed with Greg’s takes almost exclusively in the first half of this. Coy was just way too comic faithful without really thinking like an audience member of movies

The Rogue Cut is what the movie was supposed to be. The theatrical release was not just a simple trimmed down version, I'm guessing that after principal photography, when they were already editing the movie, they decided to shorten the runtime. So they rewrote the flow of the whole movie, cut what was not needed based on the new version they wrote, and shot the necessary scenes to stitch everything back.

I think it's implied Magneto has tried to escape. Once he's out of his cell he knows how long it will take for the armed guards to arrive and that there are 20 of them. It's a single hallway underground with a room full plastic guns. You can assume the way he would eventually escape on his own is just throw trial and error, the kitchen during quicksilver's scene had tons of metal cookware, which is first shown when wolverine uses one as a weapon when he wouldn't really need it.

The real question is how did they catch him in the first place lol
