Dude had a heart attack in the middle of the performance but kept playing and was rushed to the hospital immediately afterwards. Wow!

Something to note is that Mr. Rich has a heart attack during this performance

What blows me away is that both Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa did all this madness while wearing a suit and tie . . .

Heart Attack!!! Saw him when I was 14. I'm now 67. He was just on another level!

I was blessed to see Buddy and his band live at my high school alma mater's annual jazz festival in 1980(?). Absolutely one of the greatest stage performances I have ever witnessed. And Buddy was having such a good time playing in front of 3,000 jazz musicians that he actually played an encore. Buddy NEVER played encores! What a night that was.

Buddy could not only beat the drums, he was also a black belt in karate.

Buddy used the drum kit like an orchestra. You hear his style (audio) in Bonzo‘s and Neil (vusual) drumming.
And yes, that was after Animal and probably sone others will mention it as well: he had a heart attack during this performance

Check out the Live at the Hague solo! It wasn't cut short with a heart attack

There's not a rock drummer, past or present, good enough to carry his lunch pale.

@Steven-xd5kn 7 months ago

Thought he was going to have a heart attack right there taking a bow the first time I saw this one lol...

The man that influenced almost every great rock drummer in the 60's and 70's. Including John Bonham

I hate big band music with a passion. But even I gotta admit Buddy Rich kicks butt.

Check out Gene Krupa and Sammy Davis Jr. on drums. ( videos of both). The debate is wjo is better, Buddy Rich or Gene Krupa. Sammy is not as good as both of them but he is good. Also check out Karen Carpenter ( her drum solo video)
