As a kid I was expecting lions to shout out the word "ROAR" because that is what I used to read in illustrated books. And i was a little disappointed and confused when the lion at the zoo did not say ROAR.
I used to live right next to the Zoo , at night and in the morning you could hear the lions roaring ,not what you would want to hear at night in the bush .
I remember one year I worked at a zoo in Minnesota and I'll never forget I was probably about 21 to hear the Roar and the sounds that Lions make just put fear in my heart and I remember thinking I would never want to meet that animal in a life-or-death situation just a sound of the Roar shook me to my core. Definitely have to respect nature.
I have a great respect for tribes living among powerful wild animals who only kill to protect themselves or to eat, yet for 100s of years live among ferocious beasts . What stories they must pass on to their children.
I grew up in these areas, Makindu, Mutito Andei, Tsavo... My dad used to work for the ministry of water and he'd be sent to such areas. Research on the Mugo Wa Kibiro prophecy of the long iron snake being led by white butterflies... Maybe it's true, Africa was putting up it's last fight...
I'm a volunteer at a large zoo and the sound of the lions roaring as I walk to my post alone early in the morning is a sound never to be forgotten - God how I love it!
This story shows mankind how much animals adapt not only to the environment but our behaviors and actions. I think humans tend to underestimate the instinct and pure will to survive that animals have.
I knew the lions were on display at the Field Museum in Chicago. Fortunately I was able to travel there for my company. Ditching the conference one afternoon I walked to 2 miles to the museum. Winding my way through the multitude of animal displays I rounded a corner and there they were. The display has them very close to the protective glass. I simply stood and marvelled at these magnificent creatures. Knowing their history I had such a feeling of being small. Indeed a sight to behold.
We watched this in high school in the auditorium, they sold tickets like a cinema & got to get out of a couple classes. Very good movie when Val Kilmer in his prime
