Channel Description
On this channel, I show how to completely renovate a house on a budget.
In the videos, I explain what I've done and occasionally address topics related to the house.
I
Hello, in 2018 I bought a house in the beautiful town of Sonneborn. A real bargain, built in 1905.
My house was built at the end of the Art Nouveau period, and you can still see some of the original ornamentation, as it's a house built by ordinary people in a simplified style.
The house was clad in the 1970s/80s. Some of the windows were wooden from 1905, two were single-glazed cast iron windows, and most were cast iron double-glazed windows from 1979 (week 40) and March 1985. The roof was re-covered around the 1980s. Heating consisted of two night storage heaters, two electric radiators, and a wood-burning stove. The electrical system was still housed in a wooden box with gray wiring, six fuses, a ripple control unit, and a separate meter for the night-time tariff.
Before I started the complete renovation, I created a spreadsheet listing all the necessary work, its costs, and the estimated labor time. The spreadsheet became quite extensive. I calculated my own labor at 16 hours per week and half a vacation day, allocating 8-10 hours per vacation day. This resulted in a projected timeframe of 7 years. So, I'm still roughly on schedule, as the photovoltaic system and the new garage weren't included in the calculations. Now I finally have some time to create some videos. The footage dates back to the house's construction and is from the past; we'll gradually move towards the present.
If you'd like me to explain certain tasks, just write. Due to time constraints, it may take several months before I read your message. Please be patient.
