What's often forgotten is that Hawerchuk won the critical face-off in the Canadian zone, just before Gretzky and Mario worked their magic to score the game winning goal.

This is the greatest hockey series of my lifetime.

I remember watching this series. It was so awesome. My family would make it a game night, no supper just sliced meat for sandwiches and assorted snacks. This was for the whole Canada Cup we did this. Just incredible watching all of it!

And yet they nearly lost to the Soviets, despite playing on home ice with small rink size. I rate the Soviets as the better team.

PROPP's so Underrated. The 5 time All Star is the Highest Scoring LW in NHL Playoffs History while representing Canada "5 Time's" Winning Gold🥇(Twice). Scored 1000+ Pts in 1000+ Games in Regular Season Career. A CHRIS CHELIOS Cheap Shot basically ended his Career as he played parts of 5 Season's @ the end but was never the same after the Hit from behind. Can't believe he's NOT in HOF yet CARBONNEAU, SHUTT, BARBER, ANDERSON, LAPRADE etc are in all in the HOF. Awesome Series I got the DVD Box Set.

It gives me goose bumps watching this again!

Such joy the whole Canada felt that last night. Thanks to all canadian players who gave us the best game ever played.

The most exciting hockey ever. I lost my mind when Lemieux scored the winner in Game 3. I'm still crazy.

the last gretzky lemieux goal is legend and ya, hawerchuk was amazing

Gretzky had a 2.33 PPG average this tournament, which is INSANE for international competition. Prorates to 191 points over an 82 game spread. No wonder he won the tournament MVP.

I really liked this video. Quick-paced with all the highlight clips of the goals in Canada's games and primary quotes sourced from the contemporary newspaper reports.

It's incredible looking back and seeing some of the Eastern bloc players like Hasek, Gusarov, Kamensky who would be in the NHL in like 5 years plus the KLM line.
There will never be another tournament like the 1987 Canada Cup

Was the best series I've ever seen!.. was about 5tyrs old in 72'.. but even to this day..it puts..tears..to my eyes!..  don't need no " onions".. !  Lol... Thanx 4 posting this,.

That was the best Tourney ever I watched it as a 7 yr old I will never forget that Wayne to Mario moment so awesome . Thank you great Video

1987 was better than 1976 because the talent level on all the teams was much better.  No one was going to be losing 11-2 like the Finns in 1976.  Every game was going to be tough.

I truly enjoyed this video. As well as watching your other Team Canada Hockey videos. This particular video was special. Bringing back fond memories of watching this game at home. I just found your channel and subscribed. Looking foward to perusing more of your great videos😅

You are correct, this is the best hockey I’ve ever seen.  I had the tapes since 1995 and never tired of watching the Soviets orWayne

I was at games two and three in Hamilton. When I think about it now, it’s surreal. I WAS ACTUALLY THERE! I started the chant at the end of the game: Na-na-na na! Hey hey hey; Goodbye! Sooooo weird!! And soooo cool.

I was lucky enough to see 2 games live.

Awesome thank you.. One tends to forget the details as we get older.. I remembered it similarly but that Tocchet quote is gold!

Best hockey series ever played.
