Thanks for listening to my moaning dear friends, here's that page I mentioned... https://www.jamespopsys.com/harris

James, mate — you are a weapon with a camera. All the other channels I have grown into and grown out of. You somehow managed to be both advanced and beginner friendly at the same time. I love the integrity that your work has, and how you stick to a philosophy of capturing views more than photos. Process consistency, and story make your images predictable, but the variation and vision you demonstrate each time just blows me away so it's never repetitive. Great eye, and great hunting, honestly.

Lens: You want to sell me? HOW ABOU THAT!

I'm so jealous that you got footage of your tripod incident

You dork. Your pictures are wonderful. The challenge of taking of pictures in a time of a place is that you have no idea what is coming next. A day, a week, a decade later, all that could be an airport, a leper village, or exactly the same. You just find the composition that works, and you take the shot. Let time worry about time. Just be there now.

"not to trust your emotions and that they accurately depict how the photography is going." Sadly, that cuts both ways. The number of times I have been excited to get home to see a promising wildlife shot, only to find it fails to impress. Thank you for the videos o/

I seem to have been watching your videos from the time when you were using Lumix cameras. Quite a long time. I was probably reseearching my next camera. I didn't buy a Lumix. I wasn't really intending to keep on watching but here I still am, year after year. I thought your photos back then were pretty good (I have no more insightful opinion than that I'm afraid), but lately and increasingly they are stopping me in my tracks. I think I might one day see a photo on a wall somewhere and think, that's a James Popsys. The way you explain your thought processes about photography has also reached a different level in my mind. So it does make sense. It always does. To me at least. Just one unique thought can be a lifetime's inspiration.

That photo of the boat in front of the cooling towers has to be one of my favorite Popsys photos ever...

Maybe off-topic,  but I want to make a comment about your sponsor, MPB. I found MPB to be an excellent venue for selling off unwanted gear. The Panasonic G9 which had been living in a bag on the floor of my closet for three years brought a very satisfying price. MPB's bid was by far the highest among three major firms dealing in used gear. And they fulfilled that bid. No nonsense. Cheers.

That's what the lens hood is good for... apart from sun protection, of course.

The iPhone video looks fine, maybe a little more durable as well if there was ever a tripod incident. Always enjoy your videos. Newer to photography and editing, appreciate you and thoughts in your videos. Thank you

One of your best, James- and I’ve been with you for awhile. Well done.

“Passing Place” is a photo book title.

Can't imagine how it feels to live near such beatiful places, when you don't need to book a flight, get visa, etc to get into these beatufil landscapes. It's just unbelievable.

James, brother I literaly flinched like it was the scaryest horror movie moment when the lens went flat. I felt the impact through youtube. The sound you made, it made, just such a moment.

Somehow, the picture at  6:32 clicked so much with me, what a lovely combination of composition, lightning and color! Keep up the great work James

Not only are you making sense, James, I'd personally rank this vlog as one of your very best! And I say that after watching your vlogs for years and never commenting on anything until now. Now, thanks to you too, Joel Meyerowitz's book is on my reading list. Tx!

He starts preaching straight facts after 9:50, for those of you that wanted to click off early. Sorry James, haha. But the ending was gold, don't want anyone to miss it. <3

Sir, humble opinion here.  The most important item in photography is the "eye/brain system".  Had a gravity related incident myself a while back, spare camera came in handy.  Lens was OK once the remains of the filter had been removed, with extreme prejudice. Filter dealt with most of the kinetic energy.  As was the theory in fitting one in the first place.

The iPhone video looked great on my MacBook. More than good enough. Go with what is "minimally sufficient" for your video needs. Only go big video camera for a specific lens. The ideas and words matter more to me than the tiny bump in video quality a mirrorless set up provides. The photos are where to bring out the actual cameras. Why we do this photographic art  is a great discussion. Very meaningful. Finding flow is that peak experience I seek and find often out in nature, photographing what is, what has always been there, and that will survive me and all of us.  Great video as always. 📷☮
