Excellent video. I used to work in TV when Video8 was released.

I Was waiting THIS video about hi 8, 8,... thanks a lot 😊

Вы дали такой огромный объем информации в таком коротком видео! На книжку небольшую потянет!

Thank you for making this! It was super helpful and informative.

Wow, this was very helpful. Thank you so much and keep up the great work!

Really helpful video, thank you!

Super informative video! Thank you

The video @ the end shows a date of Dec. 28 1991 , that was 1 day before my 8th Birthday 😭

Спасибо за интересное информативное видео!

Hi! Type Of The Tape звучит прикольно! Словно из поговорки! :)

The PCM stereo versions had a significant drawback, the digital audio was recorded at the end of the “video stripe” by the helical spinning drum, the wrap on the drum being extended approx 20% to achieve this. 12 bit 32kHz non-linear.
Thus the audio was received with the picture, but was stored in memory, time compressed & recorded after its accompanying video. On playback the picture is played, then the digital audio is played, un-time compressed and outputted. Thus the replay audio was significantly delayed relative to the picture. I found out the hard way the first time I used my nice new V8 home deck.
Tascam developed a professional 8 track digital multitrack recorder using the V8 transport, this was true CD quality 16 bit linear 44.1 or 48kHz, later increased to 24 bit 96kHz.

Awesome! Learned something new !!

Thank you

Video8 and Hi8 analog video recordings can be converted directly to DV format digital video streams by legacy Sony Digital8 camcorder models capable of reading legacy analog tape recordings. These DV video streams can be captured via Firewire as intraframe-encoded AVI files on Windows and Mac computers without alteration or re-encoding.

Since these video recordings are converted directly from analog to digital within the camcorder, they are first-generation copies that should be archived intact. In addition, frame-accurate post-processing tools such as ffmpeg can be used on DV AVI files to cut and trim them into individual scenes with zero degradation (they are not re-encoded into a second-generation video format).

Here are some Sony handicam models still available on the used market capable of analog to digital videotape conversion:
Sony DCR-TRV103, DCR-TRV107, DCR-TRV110, DCR-TRV120
Sony DCR-TRV203, DCR-TRV210, DCR-TRV230,  DCR-TRV240
Sony DCR-TRV310, DCR-TRV315, DCR-TRV320, DCR-TRV330, DCR-TRV340
Sony DCR-TRV350, DCR-TRV351, DCR-TRV360, DCR-TRV361, DCR-TRV380

Great presentation, like always.  SONY even developed a Hi8 ENG camera for broadcast, the SONY EVW-300 and many low-budget stations have adopted it as an alternative between Betacam and SVHS.  Speaking of tape thickness, is anyone aware if the tape thickness varies or it's the same in SONY DVCAM tapes for PVD-64M, PVD-94M, PVD-124M and PVD-184M cassettes?

What exacltly was the problem with mixing MP (Video8) and ME (Hi8) tapes and 'grease' ? - video head clogging or something else?

Hi! I have a Sony Video 8 Handycam. The audio and video outputs look like the one you showed at 11:19. Which converter devices can I use to digitize my Video 8 tapes on a Mac?

I wonder if Hi8 had a boost in lines of resolution for PAL like LaserDisc also considering Hi8 XR.

Because Hi8 was 400 lines in NTSC, but for PAL it was the same or got a boost to maybe 440? If so for Hi8 XR where it had 440 in NTSC maybe it had something like 480 lines for PAL like NTSC DVD and only 20 behind D8/miniDV, but this sounds too good to be true even if colors are not as good as LaserDisc, I read somewhere that only LaserDisc had that boost for PAL.

Also I’m seeing how it works recording Hi8 quality onto normal “new” Video 8 tapes that where sealed when I bought them and the results are extremely good at least for me, the video 8 tapes are basic TDK MP not even HG.

10:03 why does the airplane have 9 tape decks? Or 3 triple tape players?
Do you think the plane can play 9 different tapes or movies at once, that go to different areas of the plane? Like at the same time so people can watch separate? I remember flying when they wld play 2 movies, but was thinking I flew one time and you could purchase individual movies to watch.
