the funny part is that Georges Laraque used to VERY politely ask if someone wanted to fight, and he did it all the time, hence why he is one of the most respected Enforcers in the history of the sport. and as you saw he ususally complimented the other fighter after a job well done.

It's fun to see you watching this-I'm Canadian born and raised and this is exactly how we were taught to handle our situations lol. Most people think of us as nice, and that's true, but mostly we're respectful. That's it. Canadians in general live by this code. If you don't want to fight, we won't, but if you say yes we don't hold back lol. 🤷❤️🇨🇦

Canadian born hockey fan here, I stumbled on your videos and after watching a few of your reactions I had to sub. It's always fun seeing people learn hockey for the first time and I have yet to see someone say they hate it or aren't interested in it after seeing what hockey players can and will do on the ice. I did want to mention that it is now ILLEGAL to remove your helmet before a fight, and if you do try and do it the officials will get in and break it up before it even starts; in fact they'll stop the fight completely if a player either loses his helmet or it is removed by their opponent. The NHL doesn't allow it anymore because they don't want to see a player bounce their unprotected head off the ice if they get caught with a punch that floors them. CTE has been a sore point of the NHL just like it has been in the NFL

@9:03 that's why they call it a gentleman's game

You mentioned how hard it is to balance when fighting and you’re right that’s why hockey fights usually involve grabbing the opponents jersey to help balance yourself

One thing to note is while everything in this video is true the fighting in hockey is blown out of proportion, probably because it's the only sport that allows it at all. There is still lots of pushing and shoving but much less of the square up and fight. Having a true "enforcer" who only fights really  isn't that common anymore. The skill that the players have is the main focal point and can be quite amazing. I'm not saying you'll ever be a big fan but if you get a chance to watch a game you might really like it. Even better if you can go to a game in person, then you get a real appreciation for how fast the game is. Playoffs are starting tomorrow so it would be a great time to see a game!
Always love seeing a hockey reaction, cheers!

There is a ton of honor and integrity that's a big part of hockey culture.  Aside from The Code, one thing that really differentiates hockey from the other major sports is that players take personal responsibility for failures and when they talk to media about wins or success, they always talk in terms of "we" and never "I".

9:10 sports are a microcosm of life, that’s why we love them so much 🤙

9:00 life principles….hockey=life

10:10 HAHA ahhh I love seeing someone say that who’s never seen it before. It really is some swaggy ass shit 😂 just dropping the gloves while gliding and even sometimes taking both helmets off and then just beating the crap out of each other. The good old hockey game

26:37 wise words my man

Bro this is a great video to really show the loyalty in hockey that other sports fans just wouldn’t know. I’ve played multiple sports all my life and made many bonds of friendship and teammates but I’d only call my jockeys teammates my brothers. It’s a different feeling being hurt and seeing your whole team have your back without a second thought. It makes it instinctual for you to come to their aid and protect them when the time eventually comes.

As you see, and have probably been told, while there's a code, the "Tenant" is "Being Classy", and "Respect."  You already know it's a fast moving sport with dudes hitting each other. If people wild out too much, it's outta control. And like you said, everyone has the passion for the game, and the team. "Were out here to play hockey" and when that aggression and respect are kept in balance, the game gets really beautiful. And those enforcers out there keep that balance, Darren McCarty said, "We keep it in check so that the goal scorers can do their thing and entertain the fans"
Goal scorers cost money, they score goals and that of course leads to wins and playoffs.
"Snowing the goalie" is a fight on my block. If you stop hard in front of me as a goalie, and get that snow all up in my face, I'm coming up swinging, or my boys are.

Definitely should do a best saves ever reaction! Would love to see your view on the position I love to play

I remember that game that Syd got the guy between the legs.  That dude had just done that to him.  Syd definitely has the reputation of taking care of himself on the ice.  He is one of the few big stars who does.  So does Ovechkin.   PS, so many things happen on the ice that you never see or hear.  It's going on constantly throughout a game.  This is why the 'code' exists....because players have to police the game themselves a lot of the time.

Thornton and Benn going at it as two leaders of their teams... respect and fighting was such a good fight.

RIP Ray Emery. What a goalie.

You have to watch the mic'd up fighting compilation. Worth the watch

You'll see on most fights both players will try to grab one another for balance

I am a huge hockey fan and this is one of my favorite videos to watch and I love seeing people react to it especially those who are new to the sport because it explains the sport very well. At least the aspect of fighting. It explains exactly why they do it and after watching this video you can definitely see when watching a hockey game that mostly everyone follows these rules.
