Wandering spiders next?

"violin spider" isn't nearly as fun to say as the more rural version, "fiddleback".

Im scared of spiders but like watching spiders

Great video! As a Chilean, we’re taught from a very young age at home and in school about the risks of the Chilean recluse spider (Araña de rincón). We always shake our clothes before putting them on and never put our hands anywhere we can’t see.
One rule I learned is that if you see more than three of these spiders within a week or two, you probably have a nest nearby. I found one while doing laundry, another while washing dishes, and another in my bathroom. So I started checking dark, hidden corners and eventually found the nest in my kitchen, there was a big egg sac, about 30 tiny spiders, and two adults!
It’s also commonly believed that they appear more often around this time of year as summer approaches.
Public health posters here even recommend trying to catch the spider (alive or dead) if you get bitten, so doctors can identify it and use the correct antivenom, which is available in many emergency centers in the country.
Thanks for sharing the video!

I got bit by a Brown Recluse on my upper thigh while asleep in my bed. I don't recall it ever hurting but it did get necrotic and I now have a really thick scar were the tissue went necrotic about the size of a quarter. I never knew there was so many species of Brown Recluses, awesome video as always Spencer.

Spiders don't get squished because they look like a dangerous spider. They get squished because they look like a spider.

You assume I'm getting my face close enough to count their eyes.

My house for a while was infested with LOADS of brown recluses. After a few sprayings we finally don't see them as often. We would get HUGE ones and also little tiny ones. I was seeing all ages of these guys multiple times a day. The most I caught in one day was around 20. My house was a village of brown recluses. I calmed down so much after learning how overblown the fear behind brown recluses is. And also never got bit! Despite how many I lived with and how many I caught crawling on me 😔.

I was bit by an Brown Recluse that crawed up my pant leg . The bite left a small red circular area that grew larger .I used a activated charcoal compress which I applied . I was looking into buying a brown recluse kit but was told by a cleaning lady about activated charcoal and how to apply it . The bite healed in a week or so .  As as youth I was bit by an Black Widow that had made its home, (I guess) in my shoes which I Had left on the outdoor steps . I learned to ALWAYS check my shoes before putting them on!  if left outside like camping etc . I nearly died as I had a severe reaction to the bite . It burned like mad and the gland in my crouch swelled up right away . I was taken to the emergency room and soon could not see . I heard my mother and father talking to me but that was all . I guess I was given an anti venom or a strong antibiotic. . The pain at the byte was like someone holding a match to my skin . The pain lasted several hours before it abated .  I'm surely thankful to God that I did not die .

Fiddlebacks also walk one leg at a time. They're not a burst walker.

Had an infestation of these for about a year. Almost impossible to get rid of them when they get that bad.

But no one ever got a bite. It made me respect them but I don’t fear them nor spiders at all anymore.

They don’t want anything to do with you and it usually takes a lot to get them to bite

I got bit by a recluse spider at 15, I almost died. My kidneys began to fail due to the venom. Thankfully I made it to the emergency room in time and I am still here 15 years later. These spiders are terrifying

Another name for the Brown Recluse I quite often heard when I lived in the Oklahoma area of the US was Fiddle Back. My neighbour got a really bad bite from one... and no, it's not a "heard it through the grape vine" anecdote. I saw the bite myself. Saw the hole it made in her arm. At least an inch or two deep. For the first few days, maybe longer not sure... it was a long time ago... they had to pack the hole with specially treated gauze to help healing and prevent infection. If memory serves she was bitten while sleeping and didn't know about it right away, which gave the venom time to act and that's how it got so bad

greetings from Brazil my friend! I'm a student of biology and I'm actually working in an anti venom company here in Brazil, called Institute Butantan. We deal daily with Loxosceles and Phoneutria spiders, but the most common genre of Loxosceles here is the Loxosceles Gaucho. To be honest it is very easy to deal and manipulate Loxosceles, they are not aggressive at all!

I grew up hearing the Brown Recluse being called the "Fiddler" because of the mark on the back.

Here in Central Texas, the Brown Recluse is informally known as a]the Fiddleback. That’s what I always heard people calling it when I was growing up, at least. Everyone I know now just calls it a Brown Recluse…

I had no idea that West Texas has so many unique members of the Recluse family. Glad we don’t have the Chilean Recluse here…yet…

I think more people in the Pacific Northwest need to watch your videos. The scare of the Hobo spiders hasn’t gone away, I’m glad I’ve learned a lot in the past couple of years about these misunderstood creatures. My partner and I once lived in Port Orchard, Washington and I walked into the bedroom and saw the dog playing with this massive spider, I at the time did think Hobo spiders were dangerous due to what I’ve always been told, it got squashed very quickly and identified it as a Hobo spider. I’m a huge spider fan now, our 30 Tarantulas love your videos also haha 😂

I'm glad someone is finally talking about the other loxosceles!  I'm so sick of the "experts" saying "there's no loxosceles outside Oklahoma"  if you believe that non sense, stay outta the conversation, please.

“To be able to tell the sex of a Recluse Spider you have to look at the genitals under a microscope.”  Funny.  I heard the same thing about the Golden State Killer.

I had a recluse on my neck once after putting on a shirt. Thank God she wasn't in a biting mood and just wanted to get out of my shirt.
