In the beginning, it was "this is not my cup of tea". By the end, it was "I know the pieces fit".

Dennis Chambers closing his eyes while listening to Tool makes me think of Luke Skywalker in A New Hope when he shuts off the targeting computer and relies entirely on the Force.

This is not my cup of tea - proceeds to enter a trance and take a shaman's journey to embody the valley where the tea was grown - that journey ends in a rebirth through that smile. That beautiful victorious, joyous, peaceful smile.

I've listened to Schism at least 500 times and I can't even hit the snare on my air drums on time consistently. Insane

The problem with that performance is that it almost seemed too easy. His absolute mastery of the drums disguised the real difficulty of what he did.

He closed his eyes and let the drum spirit take over...

This fucking dude got an honorary doctorate in 2004 for being a fucking boss on drums. OVER 20 YEARS AGO. Legend.

If you're not a drummer, it's very hard to understand how difficult this was. Dennis Chambers is a legend for a reason.

That smile was magic. That was the moment he fully locked in. What an absolute unit. It felt great to us too, Dr. Chambers.

The bird flies, the fish swims, and Dennis Chambers drums

When Dennis said “this isn’t his thing” at the end of his play though all I could think was “it fucking should be!”

One legend named DC playing another legend named DC’s song.

"This is not my cup of tea". 5 minutes later... "This cup of tea is mine now". 😄

I would soo love to see Danny’s reaction.

Google says: "Schism" by Tool is renowned for its complex structure, with analyses frequently citing 47 meter changes throughout the song. The song moves between over 12 different time signatures, featuring a constantly shifting, progressive rock rhythm rather than a consistent, repeating meter.

Genuinely, unironically one of the most impressive feats I've ever witnessed in my life. The man is a fucking machine

@salvadoresteve3636 6 months ago

The funniest thing is that he says "that was my first attempt..." as an APOLOGY!!... Most of us woukd spend a life to play half he did in his first attempt.

He looks like he allows the song to possess him. Then he just locks in. When he owns the time, he lives in it, then his accents and vibes seem almost Instinctual.
Absolutely fucking phenomenal.
