MUST READ:
Hey there team!
This video is very different from all the other videos i've posted about drummers for a simple reason: Buddy Rich is dead.
Not only him but also 90% of the people that surrounded him are dead as well. I may not know a lot of things in this life but i do know one thing for sure, legacy only stays if we try our best to REMEMBER.
On this video i'm going to be talking a LOT because this man did for the drumming community more than every other drummer combined.
Now that I have 15.000.000 followers across platforms I also have the DUTY of making sure people pay respect to the very few drummers that paved the roads that we walk today.
Out of that respect and with that goal in mind i decided to record this video where more than reacting im using his footage to explain how unbelievably good Buddy was and how much he gave to the drummer community. I don't think about these videos as reactions, I think about them as tributes.
Since Buddy can´t tell his story no more, I decided to do it myself.
There is sheer power in remembering.
Wherever you are Buddy, we didn't forget about you.
Your legacy moves on.

"a jazz drummer making every single metal drummer cry" best line ever.

First off, you are a monster drummer! I’m the drummer that revised Buddy’s snare drum book, wrote the follow up Buddy Rich’s Rudiments Around the Kit and The Ultimate Drummers Workout. I’ve been drumming for 70 years. Every time I watch Buddy I am humbled, educated and… what can I say, you know… you’re a drummer!

The combination of Buddy Rich drumming and El Estepario comments that's something fucking insanely unbelievable. 🤯🙏🍻

You picked out one little detail that got me also. When he chokes his crash early on, he does it in a tiny fraction of a second, but he seems to have all the time in the world to get it done. That only happens when you have done the monster hours of practice.

I met Buddy Rich after a concert in my hometown in 1987 just before he passed away. I went backstage during intermission to try to get his autograph. He was very nice and tried to sign a Buddy Rich music book I bought before the show. His pen didn't work so he asked me to come to bus outside after the show and he would get me the autograph. So after the show, I went to his bus. He opened the door sitting in the driver's seat in his robe just chilling. And now I am standing in front of my idle! The man the myth and legend! He takes my book to sign it and I have to say something right? So I said "I hope someday I can be as good as you." Sorry - it was the best I could come up with!  Anyway, he looks at me and says "Why not man?"   Why not man? I will never forget that as long as I live. Thanks for sharing of great Groovefather! Keep it real and keep it live!

“Even his snare rolls have snare rolls.” Prefect description. Lol

This is the benchmark, not only for drumming, but drum reaction videos. I've never seen a better one.

Gene Krupa once said of Buddy Rich, "The greatest drummer that ever drew a breath of air."  No truer words were ever spoken.

When I was thirteen,  John Bonham was my idle. I tried to learn every lick, every chop.  One day I was listening to  Moby Dick and my dad came in. He listened for a few minutes and said, that guy is okay but he's no Buddy Rich. I laughed. Then he came back with a Buddy rich record  and I was floored . How is he doing that? My top three influences are Buddy Rich, John Bonham and Neil Peart.  I'm 62...

Thats what I love about Estepario.
As great as he is, hes also gracious and humble enough to not only recognize but also celebrate the greatness of others.
No ego tripping. Just straight from the heart love and respect.
The man is awesome in many ways.

I saw him play live 50 times at Disneyland early 1980s.  His solo was different every time.  Magic.

Buddy Rich got better as he got older. Thank you so much for posting this. I've loved Buddy's playing for 58 years. I love your playing as well. I hope you have the same type of growth that Buddy had. Getting better with age. PEACE

In the mid eighties I was booked to see Buddy at Ronnie Scott's jazz club in London, I heard on the news a couple of days before the gig, that he had a heart attack, and it wasn't looking good. Of course felt bad for him, and hoped that he would recover, so when I got a call from my friend who had booked the tickets for the concert a couple of days later he said, the ticket office had offered him his money back, or he could retain the tickets, and Buddy, not wanting to disapoint his fans, would rearrange the performance, as soon as he had recovered, and sure enough  a couple of months later the gig was on, and we got a table right beside tha stage, and Buddy came on playing the floor, then the cymbal stands, then the mike stands, and then he said, "Sorry I'm late folks, I've just had a tripple bypass, and my doctor told me never to play drums again, so that said, hit it guys" and he was amazing, I was in drum heaven, what a guy, what a genious.

My father played lead alto sax for Buddy in the 70's, I used to sit on his lap and play his drums when I was 2-3 years old. Whenever I watch your videos I wonder what you think about Buddy Rich, it's good to see this pop up in my feed :)

I worked at Disneyland’s Carnation Plaza Gardens, flipping hamburgers from 1978 to 1981. There, a bandstand hosted classic big bands every week, including Count Basie, Woody Herman and His Young Thundering Herd, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Tex Beneke, and more. This is where I had the privilege of seeing Buddy Rich perform every night for a week! He is the greatest drummer of all time.

Buddy was once asked by an interviewer, "Are you the best drummers in the world?" Buddy replied "Sure, I'm the best... but I can back it up."

Watching you geek out to Buddy Rich is the same feeling we get Watching you. I will consider you the Buddy Rich of our generation.  Thank you for your dedication to your music, and thank you for sharing it with us!!!

When I was a kid, my dad would make his three kids watch Buddy every time he was on TV. He was like a kid on Christmas, and his enthusiasm quickly became ours. Thanks Dad! Miss you.

A titan watching a legend.🤘
