I take a walk along Lichfield Road and the High Street in Walsall Wood. I immediately meet an onslaught of traffic hell as huge vehicles rush past at break neck speeds. What was once a village as now become more or less a race track

Hi Phil, Walsall Wood was a nice little place back in the day. I lived for a while in Beechtree Rd. My Aunt and Uncle owned The Primrose Hotel and I sang on stage when I was about 14 or 15. I had a pushy mother and Aunt who thought they had another Lulu on their hands. Heaven forbid, I soon got out of that. The doctor’s surgery was the best I’ve ever been to. Oak Park Baths was always popular where KFC is. I bought a tv from Claridges which was still working 30 years later. There was a local butcher who was well known and liked, now Ashcroft Memorials. The main road has always been heavy with traffic and Aldi is really going to add to it. Crazy. My dog got run over on that road, but survived. That tour brought back some memories Phil. Thanks 😊

You should have gone into the Drunken Duck for a swift pint. The landlord and staff are sound people. I was working in the area as a consultant for a few months and came across this pub and was welcomed by the locals and staff. Lovely people from the area and great staff. 👌🏼

Hi Phil enjoyed looking around Walsall Wood i liked the Railway and mining History you can see why they needed a Railway and a Cannal network back in the Day and Bar and Grilles are keeping some of our old pubs open look forward to your next video all the best Paul

I believe the old car opposite KFC outside the car dealers was a Riley two point six, from about 1959.
The car dealers and Priory Court are built on the site of the old library, which moved into the Neighbourhood Office building- the shuttered building on the corner of Coppice Road.

Yes Phil where the surgery is there was a car sales and afew house. by the way that blue cage by canal is for the stop boards to seal of the canal off.

Hi Phil, David again with a comment. Back in the day Walsall wood was great. Nice cafe for lorry drivers with parking around the back (council got rid of the parking for lorries) One indian restaurant. One Chinese. One Chip shop. Boatmans inn was a old fashioned pub + The Drunken Duck. Mad Trev the barber who once held the world record for shaving the most heads. Quite fun as he only did the crew cut for a hair style or all off! Cilla Black also attended a wedding at the church opposite the old cafe. Fishing at the canal, just the back of the Boatmans was also good. Was a nice place to be back in the day.
