If you crave more fragrance conversations, I just did a 90-minute long video chat with SeldomlyOften here: https://youtu.be/z6-fdk5PwZY?si=kDWkcxJ7Crdie7_g

"buying stuff isn't a hobby" truth mega nuke

When I was in elementary school in the 80s, my best friend’s mom used to wear a perfume that was intoxicating to me. I asked her once what she was wearing, and she said it was musk. Over the next few decades, I tested and sampled hundreds of musk fragrances, but nothing smelled like what I remembered. About ten years ago, a girl came into a restaurant I was working at and sat at the bar where I was prepping. I got a whiff of the exact smell I had been looking for. She was wearing that cheap essence of amber they used to sell at Whole Foods.

So I went home and drew up a list of several different amber fragrances and ordered samples. The one that was identical to what I remembered as a child was Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s Grand Soir. Still, to this day, every time I wear it, I’m flooded with memories of my childhood, like that scene in Ratatouille when the food critic tastes the ratatouille. Memory is such an underrated aspect of both food and scent.

Cooking, gambling, fragrances. Soon you will be giving us advice on which watches to buy, its a natural progression

It feels like today is the wrong time to get into anything

"The hobby of learning can become the habit of buying without noticing." I paused the video and wrote that down.

axe walked so beast mode could run

I’m currently wearing Bengay Ultra-Strength Fragrance on my right knee as I watch this. It gives off hints of oldness

This is so deep down the rabbit-hole of consumerism it is... uncanny.

You clearly know a lot about fragrances, but you really shine with how you structure your content. As a viewing experience, this video is A RARE one

Places not having samples anymore is what gets me. It’s absolutely insane, especially given how costs have skyrocketed

i bought a bottle of cologne on a lark because it was on sale at tj maxx, went online to do a little reading about cologne, and immediately realized this was another unnecessarily deep rabbit hole that i did not need to fall into. it is very hard to be a casual about anything these days

bro just be collecting random hobbies😭 very relatable

Why Now Is a Good Time to Get Into Netshaq's Video About Why Now Is a Bad Time to Get Into Fragrances

I saw this thumbnail and clicked on it expecting another generic youtube fragrance video but this was actually extremely insightful and well put together.

Great video. Do not fall for fragrance influencers. They show you 5% of the fragrances that are out there. Go out and try niche and independent brands that treat perfume as artistic expressions and see yourself what resonates for you

I did not even consider that getting into fragrances could mean developing the ability to break down and recreate nostalgic smells of beloved people and places.

if shaq's next hyperfixation is japanese denim then we may very well have the same arc.

Late entry to my fav Shaq quotes of 2025: the hobby of learning can turn into the habit of buying w/o noticing.
