Slytherin has produced brilliant witches and wizards... but also some of the darkest names in Harry Potter history. Long before Voldemort’s rise, the house carried a legacy of ambition, secrecy, bloodline obsession, and magic pushed far beyond what Hogwarts was ever meant to teach. Some became monsters. Others simply chose power… over conscience.
In this lesson, we uncover the lives of all 10 darkest Slytherins in Harry Potter—from Salazar Slytherin and Merlin to Tom Riddle, Bellatrix Lestrange, and the others who turned ambition into something far more dangerous. Pay attention… because Slytherin’s darkest legacy was never cunning alone. It was what that cunning was willing to do.

— Professor Severus Snape
(which the Legend began in Wales so his name in Welsh was:
'Myrddin Wyllt Emrys'
(. Myrddin meaning: Merlin
. Wyllt - His druid name
. Emrys - His family name))
was an advocate for the protection of muggleborns from the prejudice of Salazar Slytherin and purebloods who believe in 'blood supremacy'
Merlin was also 100% ANTIPATHIC towards dark magic of any kind.
Believing the dark arts were the equivalent to crimes/a force against humanity.
So due to this, how in HELL is Merlin, a DARK wizard!!?
And how is Horace Slughorn a dark wizard!?
Sure he disclosed what a horcrux is to Tom Riddle/Voldemort and unknowingly led to Voldemort's raise to power but that does not make him a dark wizard.
Snape wasnt ENTIRELY dark.
If he was TRUELY dark, he'd have killed Harry the moment he stepped through the Hogwarts doors and would never have been able to cast a patronus
Regulas Black turned against Voldemort once he found out that Voldemort used and subjected Kreacher to torture and Voldemort leaving Kreacher in the cave to die at the hand of the inferi.
Regulas then died getting the locket horcrux to destroy it in a hope to lead to Voldemort's downfall.
As for Salazar Slytherin, his legacy is only told in another perspective that is not his own.
In reality, Salazar would have:
. Witnessed his friends and family being burnt at the stake for being magical, or his friends developing obscurials due to failed suppression of magical power
. When Hogwarts was built, Salazar would have vowed to protect those who like him, came from a similar background, seeing his students and the other founders, as the last ones he views as 'family'.
So when muggleborns started coming to Hogwarts, Salazar Slytherin may have saw the muggleborns as a 'trojan' from the muggles who wish to bring down wizardkind from within the sanctuary he helped to built to safeguard those who are vulnerable.
So his prejudice did not come from sheer hatred, but an automatic PTSD response fuelled with the desire to protect.
But with the other founders' perspectives, he saw them as 'harbouring the enemy' which fuelled the narrative that Salazar's purge was fuelled with sheer hatred and discrimination.
