Okay, solo ladies — help me build the master list! 😂 What tool, gadget or little trick has made living alone easier for you? And what am I missing from MY toolbox?

Loved this! 🛠️ As a woman who has always had her own toolbox and learned to do things for myself, I completely agree. Tools can be bought and replaced, but a good woman who is independent, loving and supportive is a whole different story. ❤️ Sometimes you don’t realize what you had until it’s gone. His loss 😂

I bought these round "plastic sliders" at Home Depot for moving furniture, they are plastic (for moving on carpet) and fabric covers for the plastic discs for moving on floor or tile. They are small enough to store easily and I've moved huge furniture by myself. Highly recommend getting a set. I thought your video was very comprehensive. Been divorced for years and have a basic tool kit too. Might recommend a leveler,  a hammer (never know when you can use one) and a yard stick (helps to get stuff from under the stove, poke off light stuff from high shelfs, etc.) Lastly, the electric drill is a must! Hope you get one from Santa this year!

So, at our age is "I have a great tool box" a good pickup line?

60 yo single female here. About 20 years ago, I was very ignorant about tools/home repairs and would actually have panic attacks going into hardware stores (I couldn't even articulate what I was looking for to the salesperson). Thanks mostly to YouTube, I've developed a lot of "building" skills over the years and have even helped other women figure out what they need at the hardware store 😁. Just wanted to mention this because I think there are a lot of older women who may be in the same boat.

When she opened up the tape measure, everyman ran out of the room. Ha

1) Plungers, two types, one for the toilet & one for the drainage (they are two different shapes). 2) A set of small screwdrivers (the type you get in a dollar store).

Hello Lisa, one thing a man hates is anyone messing with his toolbox so my dad used a kitchen cabinet drawer and filled it with all the tools necessary to do basic household repairs. This was a blessing for my mom because when he passed away, she was able to do simple home repairs on her own. Two things I would also recommend adding are pliers and adjustable wrenches.

I never knew you can use s towel  ! Ty

owning your own drill is very liberating!

You nailed this! 😂

All good items. I have a laser level for putting up curtain rods, hanging art, etc. Also, jar openers because there's no one else to open those tricky, tight jar lids.

Not a woman but,  I recommend needle nose pliers. Look at them closed and make sure the pliers are thin like a needle. Some needle nose pliers are too wide and won't let you get into some of those small spaces. 😊

All must haves, for sure.  I have them all (as a senior solo) except the stud finder.  Does the one you have look for the nails (magnet) or really find the wood?  I do recommend if you are hinting for an electric drill - ask for the battery type.  It makes it so much easier to just take out the tool and start working, as opposed to trying to locate an outlet and extension cord.  I have both the electric (corded) and battery - much prefer the battery.  When my ex comes by he's always trying to fix something so he made sure I am well stocked with tools; then when my dad passed I took many of his vintage tools.  Those are incredible: when tools were made to last and be actually used forever.

Hi Lisa, great ideas, thank you!

I love my electric drill. I used to have a battery operated one but  since I didn't use it very often, every time I went to use it, I had to first charge the battery.  I gave it away and bought an electric one.

I hate to be a wet noodle, I'm a septuagenarian, who restores antique furniture.
I have an entire woodshop at my disposal.

I'd recommend an electric screwdriver set.
I have a Makita with every bit imaginable.
Very helpful if you have wrist problems.
Harbor Freight has great deals on tools.

As a single woman, one of the big challenges for me is needing to replace my aged car. Cant afford a new one & really nervous over the project of buying a restored piece of sh that would become a bottomless money pit.
Unfortunately,  don't have a man figure to help out. Is anyone else in the same situation?

I am not super handy so these are my tool-box basics:  Safety glasses!!!, a lightweight hammer (great for putting up picture nails), a set of sturdy screwdrivers, a set of mini screwdrivers (good for taking the backs off picture frames), Allen keys/wrenches, needle-nose pilers, tape measure, grippy work gloves.
I have two different kinds of jar openers: one plastic and one with metal teeth - don't forget to bang the jar on the counter to help break the seal.

Someone else already mentioned my lifesaver: a jar opener! And on the other end is a hook doohickey to make opening cans with pull loops easier! I use my rubber mallet to help cut into squashes and even some melons.
