I so appreciate you being kind to your beginner self. I've watched these kinds of videos and thought, "wow that looks like what I do now" and feel crappy when they make fun of it or rip it to shreds.
Thank you for being kind.

You took a paid job while still shooting in auto and without knowing what an f stop was or even knowing that you could change lenses? Damn, that is insane

I hope you know that videos you posted 3 years ago are still helping people. This video is amazing. I can't tell you how many times I have said "Nah, I can't do a paid gig. I'm too new, too inexperienced, too whatever...". You're so right. You have to just go for it. Thank you Joanie!

My first wedding photo gig I used the kit lens on my SL2. Don't despise your small beginnings :-)

At least you did not use the popup flash, lol...

The folder "raw", that was cute.

I absolutely adore your understanding that everyone starts somewhere, I can really see that you have nourished and honed your skills with care to grow organically like a little tomato plant.

I have JUST started my business this week and this was SO needed. I do headshots and portraiture and it is TERRIFYING to feel like you don't know everything yet still are handing out contracts and charging booking fees and being official! Your video had me cracking up in places because man... do I know those feelings! I had been holding back for so long, thinking I needed to know way more than I knew... my first two headshot clients actually got me onto the recommended photographer list for the top acting agency in town. I literally cried when I got that news because the voices in my head, man... it was validation, and so is this video. I have a TON to learn, but had to trust that I actually know enough because at the end of the day, when people see my images, they're delighted. Me? Still shocked to know people can be delighted with what I do. Ha ha ha! Thank you for the great video and the wonderful encouragement to those of us out here just putting on the wings.

I'm astounded with the progress you've made in three years.  Dang! You give me hope.

It is great for you to show you first gig and it is amazing how much love you show to that work while commenting how it could be improved. Very supportive for those starting like me :)

I'm so amazed how I've just stop by on your channel because of a YouTube recommendation and you've just said exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and encouragement!

It ain't the camera or the lens. I've taken award-winning shots with a $10 pawnshop film camera. Wouldn't shoot a wedding with it though lol...

Very candid, honest, and encouraging content! Wonderful tips... Truly appreciate your channel and thanks so much for all of the helpful links, I'm diving in right now. Be well, stay encouraged, and an Encourager!

Man you're awesome

I bought some food related product and I took a picture of it and sent it to the owner and then she offered that she sends me her products to take photos of. It was surreal

I appreciate how encouraging and kind you are to yourself!

You’re amazing. This was really reassuring. I’ve been feeling like I’m not super knowledgeable/seasoned enough to charge. So I’ve been doing a lot of free work..but I feel like I should branch out. Thank youuu!

Great information, thank you! I've done a few paid gigs knowing nothing.I'm now assisting a pro photographer who had a production company for 27 years and learning a TON every shoot. Lighting is one of my responsibilities on shoots and I have no background or real understanding about lighting other than natural light. I learn more every time we go on a shoot. We're doing a big project shooting environmental portraits ... so much FUN and a lot of work. I'm so happy to have found you!

wow I must say I have been feeling a bit overwhelmed with everything I have to learn in such a short time and by the grace of God I was lead here so that I dont have to panic! I dont know a lot about the industry im about to get into but I feel led to do it! appreciate your content. thank you for all the hard work you do and thanks for helping us beginners out!!!

Why isn't there a <3 option, instead of just the thumb? lol You got me at "we could have warmed that puppy..."
