Yep, these guys are great. They had to evacuate me this spring when i broke my leg while snowboarding in Zermatt and fly me to the hospital in Visp. But the one who goes up in sneakers… you should let him up there to become a museum-piece for  coming generations…
Thank you Air Zermatt for rescuing me❤❤❤❤❤

as far to my knowledge, Air Zermatt has trained nepalese helicopter pilots for rescues at mt. Everest some years ago

What you see here is problems of people that are completely unprepaired. There is so much nice hiking you can do that is really safe. There are so many wonderful well maintained hiking routes that do not involve climbing. If you have the opportunity, do it! Ideally take someone with you who's experienced and I'm sure you'll have a blast!

I wouldn't consider climbing the Matterhorn to be "hiking".  This is some serious climbing / mountaineering.
There is loads of very nice hiking routes all around, but please do your homework and preparation and get a guide before attempting a 4000+ m summit!
I have the highest respect possible for all the people at Air Zermatt.  I've been coming to Zermatt for decades since I can walk, a d my parents even longer, and I've always been fascinated by all those professionals going to such lengths to help people.  I have a big poster in my living room of an Air Zermatt helicopter taking off in the snow near the Hörnli that I took myself over 20 years ago.

I'm from Swizerland. These are really hard hikes. ... there are hikes that are really save, beautiful and you can find everything from easy going to a challenging without getting in trouble becuase you have cable cars to go down and some have mid stations, so you can assess in the middle of the hike If you wanna keep going or not.

In Switzerland 4 million people pay to be patron in REGA, it's 40 USD a year. 80 for the whole family. There is an app for your phone, if you are stuck you press the alarm and the coordinates of your exact location are sent to REGA for your rescue.

You can come hiking in Switzerland, no problem. There are thousands of kms of safe,  well maintained and signposted hiking trails. The Matterhorn isn't "hiking", it's qualified mountaineering for which you have to be equipped and trained (and that you do with a professional mountain guide if you have 3 operational neurons).
No-one who isn't an experienced mountaineer should venture beyond 3000m.

You are absolutely right, it is not worth the risk. Especially considering the so many other opportunities with almost no risk. Climbing the Matterhorn really is a matter of ego rather than a real additional experience.

Hiking is kinda Easy, as long as you have trees around you you're safe, as soon as you go above the timberline you might wanna prepare yourself a bit better

If you're properly informed and take the right equipment you'll be fine hiking in Switzerland. There are just many tourists who expect to be able to walk arround rough terrain as if it's Disney World.

Switzerland is a very beautiful country, and the Alps are staggeringly beautiful. It's possible to walk on good paths in the Alps in appropriate boots or stout shoes, but to actually climb the peaks requires the right equipment, the right boots, and real preparation. It's ridiculous to climb anywhere in silly flimsy shoes, and time and again wonderful teams like this have to respond when somebody who has made no preparation at all gets into trouble.

we are grow up in this mountains and we know to have respect for mother nature and mountains because it' can happen something every time like this with blatten at the moment

By having to pay for their rescue, they might think about not doing that a second time. It’s good they have to pay themselves.

These guys in Zermatt or any other place in the mountains are real heroes! They must have nerves made of steel. I don‘t think I could do the job. I have the greatest respect for the teams. It‘s just very sad that there‘s so many people who don‘t care about their own safety and by that put these teams at risk.

One does not simply hike up a mountain. On foot you climb & you better come well-prepared for that.

you can multiply 1m with 3, to get foot. so 15m are around 45 ft.

Accidents happens. But going to a mountainhike with sneakers, is like, going crab-fishing in the arctic see, with a toyboat.

I so agree with you. I would never want anybody risk their lives for me, except if it is a freak accident that I have not provoked.

It sounds so funny how the say our walliser family name in englisch🤣

If you ever go hike in switzerland there are also a lot of really technically simple hiking routes with basically no risk, they still tend to be quite exhausting though so don't think just because it's not really dangerous that it's necessarly easy.
