Fascism’s fatal flaw is that early success convinces its leaders they’re geniuses until arrogance, overreach, and self-delusion make collapse inevitable in the long period, as for the economy, everything was built on propaganda and the myth of greatness rather than efficiency. The difference is that Hitler inherited a much stronger industrial base and turned it into a far more effective war economy but even that model proved unsustainable, with serious cracks already showing by 1942. In hindsight, the ruin of fascism was its own hubris: propaganda replacing reality, ambition replacing strategy, and leaders who eventually believed their own myth

Affordable housing is essential to a civilized society

Fascist society doesn't last long, but the destructions it cause does.

"The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself.
That in it's essence is fascism:  ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power."
----- Franklin D Roosevelt

Fascist leaders surround themselves with yes-men, and value loyalty over merit. That's why fascism never lasts.

what a lovely start to the week. thank you for providing my evening time. so happy to have a new upload from you! looking very much forward to it

Fascist regimes are especially vulnerable to strategic self-delusion because centralized power, propaganda, and suppression of dissent reduce honest feedback. But their collapse historically resulted from a combination of those internal flaws and overwhelming external military/economic pressures

The only way to prevent extremist ideologies from spreading is by ensuring affordable housing, common sense laws, and meaningful lives for the people. Nothing proves the superiority of a system better than satisfied civilians.

Through ineptitude, hubris, and greed, governments across Western civilizations have done everything they can possibly do to radicalize their people and facilitate the rise of extremism, including fascism.

History doesn’t repeat but it very often rhymes.

For the right to have ghosts, they would need to be mentally capable of self-reflection, which they self-evidently are not.

So excited for another episode! I know it's tough, but I want you to know your work is appreciated (^_^)

Fascism is the corpse of the dark past grabbing at the ankles of the masses.

Thanks TN. 👍
Can recommend Mattei's "The capital order: How economists invented austerity and paved the way to fascism" University of Chicago Press, 2022.

One of the few channels that has a quality guarantee. Looking forward to this!

Portuguese person here, the way you word it makes it seem that in 1974 Salazar was still around when he’d be dead for a while.

Incidentally, the ways in which the Estado Novo conforms and deviates from fascism is studied in school. The term is “fascizante”

It is very funny seeing conservatives/fascists/right-wingers melting down in the comment section.

1:19:50 I'm always reminded of Marjane Satrapi's uncle in Persepolis who was imprisoned by the Iranian monarchy, but then escaped to the Soviet Union, where he earned a PhD in Marxism-Leninism! Often makes me shed a tear 🥲🥲🥲🥹😭

Thanks. This kind of content is so important right now.
