Robert Trimbole–"Aussie Bob": The Drug Baron Who Ran A Mafia From A Country Town | True Crime Aussie.
In 1977, an ordinary furniture salesman walked out of a country pub, into the car park, and vanished off the face of the earth. His body has never been found. Welcome back to True Crime Aussie – the channel that retells the darkest chapters of the Australian underworld.
This is the story of Robert Trimbole – "Aussie Bob," the jovial racing man who was also the Godfather of Griffith, the practical leader of a Calabrian mafia empire that ruled Australia's marijuana trade from a prosperous country town in the 1970s. It's the story of the "grass castles" – the mansions built with drug money that still stand today – and of the man who joined the notorious Mr Asia heroin syndicate, fixed races with 13 jockeys on his payroll, and eluded a nation's pursuit across Ireland and Spain. But at the heart of True Crime Aussie's telling is a whistleblower named Donald Mackay – the honest citizen who saw the truth about his town and refused to stay silent, and who paid for it with his life. His murder, meant to bury the truth, did the opposite: it triggered two royal commissions and exposed the entire empire. True Crime Aussie tells the full story of the Godfather, the corruption that protected him – and the courage of the ordinary man whose death shook a criminal empire that thought it was untouchable.
