Used to watch Friday night fights with my Dad when I was a kid. I’m 88 now and I still miss him.

Joe Louis was a true gentlemen in and out of the ring

Galento was trained for a short time by Jack Dempsey. However, Dempsey got fed up with 2 ton’s laziness.

I never heard of Tony Galento till just now. He is the kind of guy who would dominate in "Tough Man" competitions but against a skilled boxer could only hope for that lucky knock-out punch, which he obviously possessed.

Jackie Gleason told a story about being knocked out by Tony outside The Miami Club in Jersey one night. It seems a drunk Tony was heckling Gleason while he was on stage and Jackie excused himself to the audience to "take it outside with this clown", as Gleason describes it, "the next thing I knew I was waking up 20 minutes later"😢

restoration is incredible.

The fact we can watch this is so amazing.

This is impossible - a fight from 1939 looking as good as if it was filmed yesterday. Someone has performed a miracle!

I’m 76 and used to watch all the fights back in the day. Mainly because my uncle Carl Bobo Olson was the middleweight champion in 1953. Those were great times and I also miss my dad

Tony fought with the style of a classic dockworker: head to the floor; explode out of his stance. He had two punches: left hook and right hook. Not many straight jabs, just “glong” you’re out.

My grandfather Robert Campbell owned a bar in Orange, New Jersey with Tony Galento.

Brawler vs a class boxer.

Like the Manassa Mauler said " Fights are strange , funny things can happen " .

Tony called Joe Louis a bum Tony got his butt kicked what does that make him

@KevinBarry-j8w 2 years ago

Mob enforcer vs Heavyweight Champion of the World, it was only gonna end one way.

What is most amazing to me here is how the referee seemingly allowed Galento to repeatedly hold Louis from the back of his head so that he would be illegally kept from retreating. Joe's ability to survive and fight nonetheless is just one of many testaments to his ability.
