CM Punk vs Jeff Hardy was never just a wrestling feud.

In 2009, WWE took one of the most beloved stars in the company and put him against one of the most controversial personalities in wrestling. What followed was one of the most emotional, personal, and unforgettable rivalries of the PG Era.

This wasn’t just good vs evil. CM Punk weaponized Jeff Hardy’s real life struggles against him every single week, blurring the line between storyline and reality in a way that made fans genuinely emotionally invested. From Money in the Bank cash-ins, to the Straight Edge Savior character beginning to emerge, to the heartbreaking end of Jeff Hardy’s WWE run, this feud felt real in a way wrestling rarely does.

This rivalry deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Two guys so similar in ring but so different lifestyles. And every match was awesome but that TLC was legendary.

The worst part of that ending was how the following week after the cage match punk came out to the ring with Jeff’s music and dressed like him to troll the fans one last time

This feud was my introduction to wwe as a kid, I was there for a time when Jeff was hot as fish grease in 09

I was unable to watch WWE from 2009 to 2010 for family circumstances. But man seeing this video makes me feel like I wish I could watch it live😭😭😭😭😭

It's funny because this was a SmackDown feud

I was on Punk's side the entire time, lol. Adopted the straight edge lifestyle because of him but even before Punk, I already stayed away from alcohol and smoking because of my family... experiences

Straight Edge Society next?

I remember that final match so well. Was absolutely heartbreaking as a Jeff Hardy fan.

Punk did such a great job that I disliked him for years all because of this feud lol

CM Punk was such a menace in 2009, but no one really noticed because he was overshadowed by Randy Orton that same year.

I remember being a kid born in 03 and Jeff hardy was gone when I started watching but I vaguely remembered him being on tv when my dad watched, and watching clips of him almost thinking he was some mythical wrestler who didn’t even exist anymore and as a kid I thought he just died lol until they returned at mania

Aww man you didn’t mention the last little twist of the knife in the back, the Smackdown after that loser leaves WWE match Jeff Hardy’s music and entrance play only for Punk dressed as Hardy to come out and I was in the crowd as a kid and when I tell you the boos didn’t end after that segment, best believe me they did not end.

Dude, he was my favorite wrestler of all time. I’m 27 now but my uncle took me to Armageddon in Buffalo New York and I watched him win the title in a triple threat mat was so dope.

This to me was the last feud of the Ruthless Aggression Era along with Taker vs HBK an Cena vs Orton although it was PG both feuds were very RA influenced

Jeff was my favorite at the time as The undertaker was out for awhile at that point. My mom got us tickets to smackdown. It was that damn cage match. I was crushed when it happened. Side note, that episode of smackdown ended with CM punk attacking Jeff again after the match and standing in the ring. What you dont see right after it went off the air was The undertaker made his return and chokeslammed Punk. I still dont know why to this day they decided to cut out

Was born in 2001 so I started watching WWE about 08 which earlier so Jeff Hardy was my favorite guy, smackdown was always the big brand for me. Smackdown, Raw then ECW.
