There are some important things I wasn’t aware of for farming the rod of discord that other people commented. -1. A hook counts as movement -2. A shadow candle gets rid of the need for movement, need for no npcs, and background walls.

What kills using the hook for me is the fact that the teleport resets your velocity making it very easy for something you are fighting to quickly catch up and damage you anyway, especially given the limited range.

I love the hook of dissonance, I just don't like how it doesn't let you keep your momentum

hooks are so good because you can cancel the hook but carry the momentum giving some very good movement options. hook of disonance is one of 2 hooks where this just doesnt work

i would just LOVE to point out, gelatin shards spawn so often, they usually clog up the metal detector with exclusively them for the whole hallow biome.

My not terraria addicted friend played with us and got a rod of discord genuinely within 5 minutes of hardmode and had no idea how insane that was to me. I think he just went back up our hellavator, and it was already hallowed. He didn't really care and gave it to me saying he wouldn't use it much. That was the first rod of discord I've used in my thousands of hours. Genuinely so jealous of that insane luck.

The Hook of Dissonance definitely is overlooked, but may not be "better" than the rod of discord. It is like asking if sports cars are better than minivans. They are very situational in terms of their use.

Hook of Dissonance does surprisingly well in modded Terraria, with all the bullet hell phases of reworked vanilla/mod bosses the Hook allows you to skip some nigh undodgable shit they throw onto you

personally i never use this hook because i rely on the hook canceling which launches you when using a hook

its funny that i use both at the same time when i get them

I remember in a Master mode run I got the rod of discord on the first kill

The reaaon i hate the hook is your movement is stopped, so even if it helped you dodge an attack your probably gonna get hit still

Hook of Dissonance would be best used in tight spaces where you don't need your entire screen anyway. Fighting plantera, golem, and mech bosses for instance can be done in an arena where you'd almost always have something within grappling reach. Though for more open space fights (moon lord mainly) the rod has the upper hand to reliably dodge the worst attacks or in an emergency.

the only problem i've ever had with the hook of dissonance is that it eats up your hook slot, I really like using hooks in general because they are a very good movement option, but the hook of dissonance basically removes those

I use the hook of dissonance solely for the destroyer so if he encloses me i can teleport out

2:52 Fun and queen slime is an oxymoron

I'm pretty sure grappling counts as movement so frog leg not needed (that's how I did my farm previously)

The reason I personally don't use HoD is mainly because of the fact it completely stops all your movement, forcing you to speed up again which can be bad against fast moving bosses. I would rather use a normal hook and no RoD than use HoD because my playstyle involves using regular hooks to switch directions and reset flight time (which also makes shield of cthulhu not necessary) so if I was forced to not use a regular hook I would lose an accessory slot from shield of cthulhu (or ninja gear but I don't usually grind it). It's also a bit slower, it's not that much but it can make a huge difference in fights where with the RoD it would just be a close call and with HoD you just die.
Great video btw, underrated

hook of dissonence has always been my go to hook and im surprised not that many people use it. Most runs i will actually go out of my way to get it along with the blade staff.

Thank you! I always use that hook! It is just so satisfying to be fighting a boss and dodging an attack with the teleport (and is fun to spam between platforms when jumping/flying). Not to mention that with the Queen Slime Mount, you can move vertically really fast (and remember that most bosses attack horizontally), so you have 2 items that help you move around really fast while farming Queen Slime.
