Nobody will ever be better than Dick Irvin. Class personified.

Doucette was quite the tenor.

Rejan Houle played a beauty here, and Lemaire really went out in style on this night!

Best team ever

I wonder how many of Lafleur's goals were assisted by Robinson. Robinson was often looking for Lafleur as he broke out of the Montreal zone or on the power play.

And a young 18 year old from Ontario was about to step in and make history

@Xsplot 4 years ago (edited)

Lafleur finished the regular season with plus 56. Not bad.

I haven't watched ice hockey for years, but I still remember the Canadiens dominating the sport in the late 70s. Takes me back. If you think the Rangers are sad, I lost a 25 cent bet on some of the games. Now that's sad.

Hard to imagine at one point in this series, the Habs lost game 1 and were losing 2-0 in game 2.

@acanadianineurope814 4 years ago (edited)

If Habs fans only knew what was waiting for them for the next 40 years.......... sigh.

1) Stand-up goalies seem so ancient now. I miss "kick save, and a beauty!"
2) Play-by-play announcer who knows every player on every line by name, compared to casual commentary announcers today.
3) Fans wearing team jerseys had not emerged yet.

An Islanders-Canadiens Final would have been one of the greatest of all time.

Great video quality for footage from 1979.

@kevinlaw6191 6 years ago

crowd was civilized at that time, very quiet for a final game

@johnkatsaros7340 9 months ago

I have to say, it was a much quiter Montreal crowd back then. The Bell centre today is electric.

That's wild to see all the people on the ice after the Canadiens won, it's very different today
