Mum used to store her tulle skirts by first laying it flat on the floor, with sideseams at the sides, then starting at one of the sideseams, rolling them as tightly as possible around a cardboard tube from wrapping paper, then rolling the rolled up skirt into paper (she would use the broadsheet newspaper, overlapping each sheet as needed). She'd then put it into a thick cardboard tube and seal the ends. It would stand up in a barrel in the corner of her wardrobe. She was very particular about the way she treated her garments, having been born in the depression years, when you looked after everything you had because you didn't know when or if you would be able to replace it...
