We must not forget to also thank Dave Jewitt, the wrangler of Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history

Everyone quiet, my show is on!!!

Block out is a video game term for the first pass of a level/map before you go through and do details so it could be a dev easter egg.

Ayyyy I'm in the video in the mini scout section! (Zephr in your squad) I thought I recognised your username but didn't put two and two together until after the game.

19:15 Wild world we live in where Dave can show a very well imagined, realistic firearm from a game and Johnathon can show a real-life cursed version of it. The green pistol grip with all that gaudy gold and carved wood is WILD

@carsongriffis4007 10 months ago

7:22 Fun fact! All enemies are allergic to RPK bullets, across all games.

As someone who was issued this weapon in the swedish armed forces, yes, I can confirm the Ak 4 absolutely has a black pistol grip in real life, so you're correct on that one - also the standard issue magazines to go with it are not ribbed like the one in-game.

I also noticed that they had forgotten to model the "silent bolt closure" thumb groove thingy that was put on the side of the bolt, but to be fair i'm just really happy to see my trusty Ak 4 complete with the 'three crowns' markings on the magwell.
I was issued the B variant with an underbarrel M203 grenade launcher, but we were starting to get the C and D variants towards the end of my service.

Kind of a shame that you can't put a grenade launcher on it in game, but at least there's a G3 in battlefield again!

It's interesting that Jonathan brought up how Call of Duty supposedly encourages/rewards single fire while Battlefield discourages it, because not only has the opposite been true for the lifetimes of each series (as far as I'm aware), but Battlefield 6 happens to be the first-ever Battlefield in which switching to single fire mode gives a legitimate mechanical benefit aside from simply general controllability.

In BF6, single fire mode inherently has significantly less recoil and greater accuracy than tap-firing single shots in full-auto mode. This isn't even taking into account the Match Trigger, which enhances those benefits further.

The ultimate retaliation for all the cursed weapons would've been Jonathan saying he just doesn't want to talk about the PSR after Dave went to all the trouble of unlocking it.

6:07 also while the gun looks like complete nonsense, I do appreciate the “seized” tag on the magazine. They’re trying to justify the existence of this abomination ingame like it was recovered during a raid and has somehow found itself in the hands of understocked armies

@notyou6674 10 months ago

even getting 5 200 meter headshots took me several hours, i seriously dont know what they were thinking with the original number.

@plackt 10 months ago

10:00 favourite implementation of this is still Insurgency’s, where ALL your equipment counts towards a weight limit. Want a bunch of attachments on your gun? Better believe you won’t be carrying too many grenades / utility or heavy armour!

Us army Infantry, Weapons Squad here. Spent many, many hours with hands-on the M240L. It is pretty faithful in-game but there are two glaring issues. Johnathan brings up the need to hold the new ammo belt in place before shutting the feed tray since there is nothing to hold it. Typically, your assistant gunner lays the belt in place while the Gunner holds belt in place and shuts the feed tray. The larger, more glaring issue comes in when you try to add a foregrip to it. The devs have the foregrips attach to an imaginary bit of picatinny that sits right about where the ejection port lives. I assume this is to prevent the player model from looking silly, having to extend their non-firing arm forward to where a foregrip would sit in real life.

I imagine the reason the Vector never really gained Counter-Terrorism traction is because most Police SWAT teams and CT units that have MP5s would rather just keep them or upgrade to a PDW like the P90 or MP7 if not just go to a short barreled M4 or Carbine. The Vector would likely be more popular if the MP5, PDWs or quality short barreled M4s like the MK18 CQBR didn't exist.

24:05 This is such well-deserved praise for Battlefield's (long-running) calibre-based damage system too. BF3/4/H/1/V/6 all use cartridge-based damage; the Vector has exactly the same damage profile as every other 9mm (including the M18), while also having its iconic extreme rate of fire and relatively low recoil... but this works due to its (also authentic) low mag capacities. It's a beautiful example of using real world traits for balance, having your cake and eating it too. :)

I had someone on my team during Operation Firestorm doing the sniping challenge. I joined them to do my engineer challenge and we had a medic and a wildcat, it was a whole party. Even better party because the enemies kept trying to crash helicopters and jets into us.

@tactical7audio 8 months ago (edited)

Hey Dave, I work for Aftertouch Audio as a weapons field-recordist and I just saw all 3 of your BF6 gun videos, and I have to say I'm the guy who recorded a lot or most of the audio for the weapons in BF6! I love what Tom from EA DICE has done with mixing the weapons to sound incredibly good. The RPK is actually using the audio from my friend's RPK ("Red's RPK" featured on my channel with many of the other weapons used.) That rail system on the RPK that Johnathan wasn't familiar with is actually the exact rail system on the RPK we recorded. If you'd like to chat about how weapons are recorded for video games let me know!

@skynet0912 10 months ago

One historic fact that i find very interesting with a lot of weapons, is that people actually used to, and still to this day, write a wrong caliber or something of that sort on the weapon, so if the weapon is ever lost or captured by an enemy, it's a small hinderence for them to think they have the right ammo for it and can use it right away when they read 762 on the side, only for them to realise when they try to reload it that it usually just jams or things don't fit together.

Bonus points if you can make it so the weapon just detonates if you load it with what you have written on the side!
