Caleb Flynn told a 911 dispatcher that somebody had broken into his Tipp City, Ohio, home and shot his wife Ashley. On the released call, he said Ashley had two shots to her head, pointed to an open garage door, and said his daughters were asleep in the house. Prosecutors now want jurors to hear that emergency call beside a very different record: more than 100,000 messages they say Caleb exchanged with another woman during a year-long affair.
During opening statements, Miami County Prosecutor Paul Watkins read messages prosecutors attribute to Caleb in which he allegedly wrote that he was trying to think of ways to kill Ashley without going to jail. Another message said that if he could kill her without going to hell, he would do it "in a heartbeat." The defense has acknowledged the affair and Caleb's ugly words while arguing that betrayal, anger, and private venting do not prove murder. Caleb Flynn has pleaded not guilty.
Tony Brueski and former FBI behavioral expert Robin Dreeke put the 911 audio and the prosecution's text-message case next to each other. Robin examines Caleb's pacing, language, claimed freeze response, and early focus on an intruder as behavioral observations rather than proof of guilt. Then the discussion turns to the messages and the prosecution's argument that they establish motive and intent.
The jury is being asked to decide whether these are separate pieces of an unhappy marriage or parts of the same timeline prosecutors say ended with Ashley's death and a staged break-in story.
