Achara and Vivian watch The Warriors for the very first time! After being framed for the murder of a respected gang leader, a New York City street gang must fight their way from the Bronx back to their home turf in Coney Island, facing rival crews and danger at every turn in this gritty cult classic.

The Warriors (1979) was directed by Walter Hill (48 Hrs., Streets of Fire, The Long Riders). The main cast includes Michael Beck as Swan (Xanadu, Houston Knights, Triumphs of a Man Called Horse), James Remar as Ajax (Dexter, The Cotton Club, The Phantom), Dorsey Wright as Cleon (Hair, Ragtime, Book of Numbers), Brian Tyler as Snow (The Don Is Dead, Scream Blacula Scream, Trouble Man), David Harris as Cochise (A Soldier’s Story, Fatal Beauty, NYPD Blue), Tom McKitterick as Cowboy (The Warriors), Marcelino Sánchez as Rembrandt (Fame, Superman II, The Bloodhound Gang), Terry Michos as Vermin (The Warriors, Simon & Simon, The Great Skycopter Rescue), and Deborah Van Valkenburgh as Mercy (Too Close for Comfort, Road to Hell, Rampage). Many of the actors were relatively unknown at the time, which added to the film’s raw and authentic energy.

Back in the 70s and 80s, street gangs still wore their colors, like vests with logos and jean jackets with gang names. There was very little gun fights, more of fists and melee weapons.

I love that moment on the train near the end. When Mercy goes to fix her hair, and Swann stops her, he's basically telling her that she has nothing to prove to these kids. It's a really sweet sign of their relationship's progression.

This movie had a videogame remake that included a prequel, and it actually worked like a charm , one of the coolest movies ever made .

John Wick did indeed lift the radio thing DIRECTLY out of this. Those of us who are, like, HARDCORE FANS of this most iconic movie immediately made the connection when we saw John Wick Chapter 4, right down to the fact they used the same song.

The Warriors is actually a modern day take on a Greek story called Anabasis.

The story is about The March of the Ten Thousand. Where Greek Mercenaries, stuck behind enemy lines, had to fight their way home. Their leader is also called Cyrus.

Only when they reach the sea do they consider themselves safe. Just like The Warriors do when they make it to Coney Island.

Thats why they use words like Conclave and Emissary, which you caught earlier on in the film, as "Harry Potter-like" 😅😂

Magic. Whole lotta magic.

In Swan's defense, Mercy did almost got The Warriors killed by the Orphens within moments of meeting them.

Fun fact. The villain with the bottles plays the house clean-up guy in John Wick

This movie actually caused a gang fight in front of a movie theater when it was released. Two rival gangs showed up to watch it at the same time.

One of the greatest cult films ever

14:08 - He didn't have a particular beef with the Warriors. It's just that after he shot Cyrus, he notice 'Fox' (one of the Warriors) saw that he shot him. So, that's why he falsely accused the Warriors of murdering Cyrus.

One of my favorite underrated action movies!
CAN YOU DIG IT!?

"Warriors, come out and play-ay! " Iconic to this day!!

The interesting thing is all the little details that make the lore: for instance, at the end of the movie when the Riffs show up in Coney Island they are not wearing their robes (their "colours") out of respects for being in the Warriors's turf.

In the game, the Baseball Furies were so terrifying. in your first encounter with them they break open a fence when you have to run away but if you stop they swarm and waste you 😭

Rockstar Games, The Warriors video game, is the best video game adaptation of all time and it's due for a remaster.

So, the comment that was, "you can imagine if NYC had gangs like these, they all dressed alike, etc..."
The meeting of the gangs to hear Cyrus- those were REAL gang members in NYC at that time. They called a truce to be part of the filming. This movie was one of my favorites when I was a teenager, and is a cult favorite now. So many iconic scenes, and now you will get it when someone is saying, "Warriors...come out to play..." 😊

Warriors,come out to playyyyyyy❤️

Fun fact The movie was based on a book called The Warriors. That book was based on a tale of 10,000 Greek warriors in the year who almost 2,500 years ago, were trapped in enemy country and had to fight their way back to safety.

The actor who played Rembrandt, Marcelino Sánchez, was gay. This was his first movie. He had a career ahead of him but he died of AIDS in 1986 at the age of 28. This was a very early case of HIV and was extremely sad. When I think about it the character of Rembrandt may of been gay. A friend of mine knew him well and I just wanted to post this so he will be remembered.

The Orphans were about to let the Warriors pass through their turf in peace until Mercy (the main female character) instigated new conflict by calling the Orpans cowards. She also attempted to provoke the Warriors by demanding their valued uniform. She then suspiciously stalked the Warriors until they finally confronted her. By that point in story, Mercy had earned a lot of mistrust from Swan and the gang —and they were understandably hostile to her.

To the extent Swan was “toxic”, I suggest Mercy was the toxic character before their relationship evolved.

Thanks for reacting to this movie. It was never a big time movie; but, it has gained a cult following over time.
