Adoption story: experts advise that children be made aware that they're adopted basically as early as possible to avoid feelings of betrayal, and identity crisises and so on

Tbh the "normal ethics" of when and if you tell an adopted child they're adopted go out the window if they already have DNA evidence that proves it and are directly asking you if they're adopted.

Girl is standing there with her DNA result in her hand asking if she's adopted or her parents stole her and she's being gaslit-

Second story- I'm autistic, and I do actively do need to know what's in food before I can eat something new. However! Even if I don't like it or am not able to try it that day, I can't IMAGINE insulting someone's cooking and gagging and throwing a whole fit. And if someone made me a special side-meal of simple safe foods? Id be singing their damn praises, that's SO KIND! For me even stuff like that helps me try new food, because if I can't eat the new thing I've got the safe thing to fall back on. I can't imagine this woman's mindset at all.

Honestly, Wendy deserves it. You don't get to call amazing food from other cultures 'peasant food' and then complain when you're served bland chicken afterwards.

OP making a separate meal for her that she isn't forced to eat, is above and beyond. Wendy is the one who picks the blander food, so what does that say about her really.

Its rude to say its "peasant food" disparingly, and peasant food is usually pretty good and efficient because resources were historically limited and families used everything. They get carried on in culture for a reason. Id rather rock out with 'peasant food' 95% of the time.

Fun fact: peasant food doesnt mean lack of quality it just means the ingredients were readily available to the peasantry. Peasant food is some of the most delicious food out there and the term shouldnt be used to mock it

OP is already old enough to know she's adopted so it's kinda shitty they had to investigate themselves before getting the truth. Parents should've planned it better tbh

I’m not a parent but if someone tells you to give their child back if they’re crying, you give them the child. I would be livid too if I saw that go down right in front of me. She was asked nicely and firmly multiple times beforehand, so of course it would escalate to shouting.

“Didn’t have to shout at her” WELL SHE DIDNT ANSWER TO A CALM TONE OF VOICE! It’s so annoying when people say “you shouldn’t have yelled at them :(“ when the said person wasn’t responding well to a calm manner.

Peasant food? What is she? A royal princess of the long dynasty of bland taste?

I'm adopted. My recommendation is to ALWAYS tell a child the truth early as possible and reinforce the condition they are still loved and still family. Never let the truth hide so long that doubt and inevitable revelation ruin and turn lives upside down.

BBQ smoke is like magic. It can transform any cut of meat into a five star meal.

And the “dog food” comment got me laughing. My dog probably eats better quality than I do. We breed and show dogs and literally grind our own meat blend for them.

"peasant food" seems both extremely insensitive and possibly racially charged (though its not my place to call that out as I'm slavic, not Hispanic)

The fact that Emily kept insisting they should be grateful to her kept making it about herself; did she truly care about the kids or just her self image?

Showing Off post:  It got to Emily's head, and it lead to her being condescending to other people, having this entitled sense of superiority, and when everyone confronted her, she proceeded to twist it as "Ungrateful bastards"

Just because you've taken care of many kids doesn't mean you always know better about someone’s child than the parent

I gave a child up for adoption. The child has always known.  A lot of people I know who adopt tend to tell their kids before they are 8.

The Emily story sounds like the start of one of those lifetime "my parents are actually my kidnappers" story

Not telling a child they're adopted is extremely unethical imo. The child doesn't know their medical history, potential mental health issues, or if there's anyone out there maybe looking for them if they were adopted out of an abusive household. Plus they could accidentally date someone they're related to by blood, which happens scarily often to people who were adopted and didn't know about it, up to the point that they had children with siblings.
Or imagine getting a double mastectomy pre-emptively because every afab person in your family had breast cancer, and years later finding out you went thru what's often a pretty traumatic procedure and altered your body for no reason, because you're adopted and share zero medical history with your family.

Tell your adopted kids that they're adopted, same for donor conception. Good God.

stolen credit story- File that police report! He committed financial feud and ruined his kid's credit score!
Serving ‘peasant food’ just because she doesn’t eat those cuts of meat doesn’t mean other people don’t

"Peasant food" is what French fine dining took its roots from. If she doesn't understand that nearly all food at some point was "peasant food," then what did she grow up eating?

If you put down something for being "peasant food" expect a haunting from the ghost of Anthony Bourdain.
