Hi everyone, I'm the director of this video. From the second I met Whee Jim, I was struck by his warmth and attentiveness. In my role as a video producer, I'm used to asking a lot of questions, but that day, I walked away from our conversation sharing a lot more about myself because Whee Jim was so genuine and curious to know more about me as a person and a friend.

And that's the Whee Jim I came to know – someone who is constantly in awe of the world, who isn't afraid to be vulnerable, who loves fiercely, who perseveres and who is hopeful in face of darkness. We filmed this video across a period of 6 months, and in that span of time, Whee Jim faced many ups and downs in his medical journey. But in each of our filming sessions, no matter how long, never once did Whee Jim lose his sense of humour. These conversations with him were a comforting reminder that even in some of life's hardest moments, there is still light to be found.

What this video doesn't show fully is how talented of a photographer Whee Jim is. Capturing the world through his trusty phone camera was one of his biggest joys, but it was also something he gradually couldn't do any longer as his disease progressed. A great story worth knowing!

Every time I take my life for granted, I am hit with these videos in my feed. I am not sure what kind of challenges I'm going to have to face in life in the future but I'll know to do my best and take it with as much stride as you have, Whee Jim. Wishing you all the love. I'm sure it's not an easy path but I know your wife and kid are so proud of you. You're an absolute champ.

I am grieving for this man. When he said: I am not afraid of death but I’m afraid of getting there, of a slow death. Right there. I’m 77. My daughter is 51 ans dying of cancer. She said this to me this week. It tore me apart. I totally understand and grieve.

I know Whee Jim. I've always admired him. He has such bravery, an incredible memory and a gift with words. Though his body is now weak, his gifts still shine and his flame burns bright. He is still Whee Jim and I admire him all the more. This breaks my heart but it reminds me that we are not made for this fallen world. May God in His mercy and grace, give us strength to cling to Him, to love, and bring us safely home.

Elizabeth seems like such a gentle and attentive carer.

My mum is also 49 and was diagnosed with ALS a year ago. She used to be a fiercely independent career woman and a social butterfly, but today, she’s barely recognisable.

My heart aches for those living with this relentless disease, stripped of control, forced to endure as their bodies betray them. It’s heartbreaking that after decades of research, a cure remains out of reach. Sending strength, love, and hope to everyone facing this battle. ❤️

Dear Whee Jim, thank you for this video. It serves as a hefty reminder to all of us to treasure the life we have, the ability to laugh, move, talk, swim, use the toilet, feel the wind on our skin. This video is also a gift to your daughter, showing her how much she is loved by her parents. I hope you enjoy every bit of the rest of your time here.

Today I was thinking about taking myself off dialysis. I've suffered from kidney failure for years and have nearly died from opportunistic infections many times.
It's hard for me to acknowledge let alone tell anyone else that I'm angry (I hide it well though) and am often on the verge of tears. I don't see the point of carrying on sometimes, yet I'm still here, trying my best to survive.

Wee Jim. I am terminally ill 4th stage cancer. I would say I have a wonderful outlook on life, considering. But the way you have put your thoughts into words in this film, the way you have expressed so clearly what I too feel, is something I want to thank you for. Your little story and your words in the little boy in the playground!!! Wow. Thank you. I too realise that this is how i have to see this last stage of my life. I too have to, as an emerging artist (since my diagnosis), get on with only what I can play with and all I can play with, and find new ways. The reason for this is, I am so tired. Sometimes I want to draw or paint or make a sculpture. But I’m just so tired with the cancer eating me up and the medication for my pain dragging me down. But I still have a will to play in my playground. So… Thank you from the depths of my heart, and I hope you are still playing.

I am living with ALS and so moved  and touched after watching your short film. Thanks for sharing your life story, your struggles and how you handle with courage this debilitating disease. Again thank you, you are such inspiration!

I know WJ for many years as my yoga student. He gains all my respect as one of the most hard working students. I'm honoured to meet him in my teaching journey. He has the kindest soul and the strongest heart. I may not be able to find another person as dedicated and gentle as WJ, because i still miss seeing him in my classes. ❤❤❤

His daughter will have something to watch for many years after. I have a feeling this was made for her. Her dad and mum will always be watching over her.

I’m a hospice social worker so I have worked with many ALS patients. I’m always in awe of the strength they have dealing with this illness.

I lost my dad to ALS 9 weeks ago. It is completely devastating to the patient and their loved ones. God bless Whee!
