Fascinating Horror

Something a little different this week. Once a year, around the holidays, I want to share the story of a disaster that didn't happen - a tragedy that, whether through luck, the bravery of those involved, or simple good planning, was averted. In this story, everyone survives... although it's definitely a close call.

Fascinating Horror posts weekly videos covering the true stories behind some of history's greatest disasters. The channel is made possible by supporters on Patreon and YouTube channel members. HUGE thanks to everyone who supports this channel!

I got to see captain Sully speak at a college, and when he came out on stage, everyone was applauding and cheering for him. When the crowd quieted, he laughed and said “I haven’t even said anything yet!” He was down to earth, funny, and clearly brilliant.

I've spoken personally with the co-pilot. He is so humble. He will literally talk to anyone on his social medias about his experience. Great man.

They neglected to mention that, following the conclusion of the accident investigation hearings, a NTSB official asked the flight crew if there was anything else that could have been done to have made the outcome different, wherein Skiles replied, "Yes, we could have done it in July".

Sully's very first interview went to his daughter's high school paper? Damn, that makes me respect this guy even more!

Saved an entire plane of people and still called the library to apologise for a book being ruined. What a legend.

Sully: "What a view of the Hudson today."
Birds: "Want a closer look?"

That dude in the wheelchair must have been terrified when they crash landed in water. What a nightmare with an amazing outcome

Captain Sullenberger says that when the aircraft came to rest, he and the co-pilot both looked at eachother and said "Well, that wasn't as bad as I expected."

“Yeah Martha, I was in a crash and... yeah I’m ok thanks. I just wanted to say that I won’t be able to return the library book I borrowed.”

the library book being about safety is honestly so funny, it obviously fulfilled it's purpose, even if it was "killed" in the process

"Without a single death"
Goose: hisses and honks angrily

NYer here - Sully's never gonna be forgotten in this city. It kinda goes without saying that plane crashes have some additional trauma around here, so having a miracle like this meant so much. His heroism is beyond words. Bless him forever.

While us humans call this “the miracle on the Hudson”, birds know it as “the Hudson massacre”

The captain went back twice to make sure everyone was safe. That's the part that impresses me the most.

He apologized to his library for losing a library book in an air disaster. Can this man be any more pure?

"What a view of the Hudson today."

idk, let's get a closer look

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

"Not today" - Captain Sullenberger

the part that hit me the hardest about this whole thing was that Captain Sully paced the plane twice to make sure no one was left behind. Defintion of a true Captain.
