I found it interesting hearing you talk about 'mandating' (I think that's the word you used) certain behaviours in your children, for example insisting that they watched certain shows on the TV. You also made frequent references to 'teaching points'. As you can see from my spelling, I am a Brit, and I think this might be partly a cultural difference between the US and Europe as a whole. In Europe we tend to give our children responsibility and loosen the reins as parents a little earlier than you do in the US. (In the UK the age of consent is 16 and they can drink alcohol at 18. We encourage our children to walk or cycle to school on their own.) In the context of this show, that might suggest that European children are more at risk of going off the rails than their American counterparts. But I think there is also a risk (as I have discovered in my own parenting) of holding one's children too tightly, which stops them wanting to communicate openly with you. How do we get that balance right? To me, that is the question that the show is so good at asking: how can we as parents create relationships with our kids that allow honest, two-way communication through the awkward adolescent years? The relationship between a parent and their child should not be of equal status, but it helps to have a little humility as a parent and to acknowledge to our children that we don't have all the answers. We've got to keep listening to them, really hear their answers and not just teach.

Great episode, I would just say that, because of the dynamics of the show, this was a very male centric conversation. Don't forget that this is fiction, and statistically an anomaly. What is true however, is that this information will get to your kids. It can be 8 or 38. Same goes for misandrist content. Everybody has different values however there are constants compared to your childrens individuality. I see more only fans models than I do incels committing violence (I'm waiting for that netflix special). Anyway talk to your kids but the world and facts dont lie. If families dont like what the manosphere says but its true than self reflection may need to be a part of the conversation. Good luck parents
